Dear fellow members of the Koha community, Now that the (possible) implementation of RDA is growing closer, I would be curious to learn what (if any) changes will be made to the Cataloging module in Koha. Are there any plans at this time to implement RDA in Koha? Thank you! Sharon Reidt Technical Services Specialist Rice-Aron Library Marlboro College
I guess I'm not completely up to speed, but I'm not seeing how RDA is going to influence our library management systems. Yes, we will need to change what we put into our MARC fields, but other than that, what effects will there be? Salvete! If you aren't completely up to speed on RDA, you're far from alone. I'd expect the adoption to run a similar length as the transition from tapes to CDs. This is an older posting, but she doesn't bite. http://managemetadata.org/blog/2010/04/21/the-more-things-change/ Another sexy cataloguing blog bumped into me a long time ago when animals could talk and I met Nicole. http://www.catalogingfutures.com/catalogingfutures/rda/ Unfortunately, the ratbags down at ALA have once again stuck a $135 road block to learning in the way of a good webinar series. The last one, Diane's, was today. Know what would be nice? Releasing the electronic out to the rabble once the velvet rope crowd got their kicks. (Nicer would not be to charge for professional information in the first place, but hey.) Cheers, Brooke

I have not heard of any formal plans to sponsor or develop RDA support. I see this page on the wiki in the RFC category: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/RDA But it doesn't seem to include an actual proposal, just the beginnings of a discussion. -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org

Yep, what we need is some smart librarians to build that page up, so that we know what supporting RDA actually means :) Chris
From what I understand, RDA is still being tested. I expect it will trickle down gradually starting with the big libraries who can afford the documentation and staff training. From my point of view, the timing is spectacularly bad, as I only managed to convince my boss that we should buy a copy of AACR2 last year, and actually implement it in the catalogue we're about to launch .
But what it will mean is that some newer downloaded records will be RDA compliant, and a lot of older records won't. Because who's got time and money and inclination to go back and upgrade the old records when they're already eyeball deep in backlog? Elaine
Hi librarians, What about setting a date and time for an IRC discussion? And during this IRC meeting build the RDA page up so that the developers can get Koha RDA ready? http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/RDA What about early December? If anyone is interested, I can create a Doodle schedule to work out the date and time that suits most. Cheers, Irma CALYX On 18/11/2010 11:24 AM, Chris Cormack wrote:
