Read More Koha Community Farmington Sponsors Facebook/Twitter Share Development by Hall Bright ByWater Solutions has provided a Facebook and Twitter application for the Farmington Libraries to allow patrons to tweet and facebook what they are reading. When you go into the details VIEW of an item, the patron sees the Facebook and Twitter icons on the right menu where a Hold is placed. See: http://catalog.farmingtonlibraries.org/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionu… By clicking the Facebook “Like” button, a patron is prompted to log in to Facebook. Then, a patron can write commentary or such and the commentary and the title [with a link to the catalog] appears on their Wall. The library’s address also appears. The Twitter “Tweet” button also prompts a log in screen and then brings up a customizable message with an automatically generated TinyURL type link back to the catalog. We are still in testing, but we are excited for this customization. Standards Organisation of Nigeria implements Koha supported by Projektlink Konsult Ltd. by Olugbenga Adara The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) Library, established in 1971, has adopted Koha for managing it’s library collections. The SON library has the responsibility to assemble and maintain a collection of standards, normative documents, books and other relevant materials it considers appropriate and relevant for a standards management in Nigeria. The implementation was carried out in conjunction with Projectlink Konsult Limited (PKL) Full details can be found online. University of Guyana Chooses Koha by Sekhar Mallampati University of Guyana (uog.edu.gy), Berbice Campus (South America) has launched it’s Library Automation System Koha on 12th May, 2011. The collection size is around 13000. We are also working on implementing Koha for University’s main campus (Turkeyen) Library which has a collection size of 140000. This is first of it’s kind in the country (Guyana). University of Guyana is the first one to implement this world’s leading Open Source Library Software (Koha) in the Caribbean. We have started helping the National Library of Guyana to start their journey with Koha. University of Guyana, Berbice Campus Library’s “Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)” service can be accessed at: http://ugbclibrary.uog.edu.gy Dept. of Software Services has provided technical support for University of Guyana automation project. I am a software engineer and HOD for Dept. of Software Services, University of Guyana. We want to thank you all for this feature-rich product. We have been benefiting from the mailing lists, etc. Koha Tips & Tricks Increase Koha Performance by Fridolyn SOMERS Here is a little technical trick : In koha-conf.xml, the address of the database server is stored : <hostname>__DB_HOST__</hostname> If you use its host name (mysql.mydomaine.com for example), the DNS will be used for each database connection. Using the IP address will pass-by DNS and may increase a little bit the Koha server performance. Configure Automatic Receipt Printing by Koha Community Did you know that you can set Koha to automatically print receipts for circulation? There is a guide on the wiki that will walk you through the process with different printers and browsers. Learn more on the Koha wiki. Newsletter edited by Nicole C. Z39.50 server authentication
by Altaf Mahmud 25 May '11

25 May '11

Dear community, I've enabled the Z39.50 server in my Koha server following these steps: 1. Edited /etc/koha/koha-conf.xml file and uncommented the publicserver line: <listen id="publicserver" >tcp:@:9999</listen> And change this line: <server id="biblioserver" listenref="biblioserver"> to <server id="biblioserver"> It forces Zebra to listen on unix socket (for Koha) and on TCP port 9999 (for external usage). 2. Restarted Zebra server. MARC data can now accessed from my z39.50 server. Now I want to implement the authentication process so that user id and login required to connect to my server. I don't know how to do it, could you please give me an advise? Thank you. -- Altaf Mahmud System Programmer Ayesha Abed Library BRAC University Bangladesh.

book reservation
by schwitzd 25 May '11

25 May '11

Hi I saw in the new koha 3.4 the book place hold is more easy! My question is: When I reserve a book, my request go to pending and must be approved. If one other user search the same book, is status it is available in opac. Is possible that the book is automaticaly unavailable alse if the reservation is in pending? I want to avoid that two user reserve the same book. upgrade from 3.0.5 to 3.2.x
by Christopher Chagal 24 May '11

24 May '11

I'm finally getting around to upgrading to 3.2.x (I know...shame on me). Koha has been so fantastically stable and low maintenance, that I've been able to neglect it for a while and work on some other pressing things. I got all of the new perl dependencies installed and upgraded the database and everything seems to be working except that our budgets are all missing (at http://[staffURL]/cgi-bin/koha/admin/aqbudgetperiods.pl) They have been replaced with one budget called "2011-01-01 2011-12-31". I saw the note in the 3.2.9 release notes about the changes made to the acquisitions module between 3.0.x and 3.2.x, but I haven't yet had a chance to look at the "fundmapping" table that the upgrade should have created. Before I dive in, can anyone give me some general advice about where my budgets might have gone and how I can restore them? Has this problem cropped up for anyone else? We'll be testing the ordering process with 3.2 before we go live, but I didn't expect the budgets to disappear entirely. Cheers, Christopher Chagal chagal(a)amphilsoc.org

Hi List, how can I organise batch import of Authority records? It seems that 'Stage MARC records for import' and 'Staged MARC record management' are designed for bibliographic records import. thanks, Tigran
