freenode #koha and #koha-news
by Chris Nighswonger 10 Oct '11

10 Oct '11

By way of announcement, the Koha Community has secured control of the #koha namespace on freenode. #koha will serve as a backup for our main #koha channel on OFTC. Folks coming in channel there will receive a message pointing them to the main channel. #koha-news is simply that, a channel for posting Koha related news. huginn will automatically post any items on the blog feed of www.k-c.org. Feel free to post any other Koha related news there as well. This replaces the historic #kohanews channel which will go away at some unknown point when freenode begins enforcing their new namespace policy. Basically we have control of any channel beginning with '#koha-' Enjoy! Kind Regards, Chris

Fwd: Open Source Research Help Needed Please!
by Nicole Engard 10 Oct '11

10 Oct '11

This came across the Bugzilla list and I thought some of you might be interested in it. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Lila Holt <utklholt(a)gmail.com> Date: Tue, Oct 4, 2011 at 8:49 PM Subject: Open Source Research Help Needed Please! To: support-bugzilla(a)lists.mozilla.org Hello! We are asking you for some help from the Open Source communities. As researchers at the University of Tennessee we are interested in discovering more about learning and interactions of members of the open source forums. This research is conducted through the University of Tennessee and is in no way associated with any forum organization. To further our research we would like input from forum members. The responses are very important to us so we can better understand what tools help forum members learn and have a productive experience in participation. There are two ways you can help: 1. Take a survey about the tools you use in the forum. We are requesting approximately 15 minutes of your time to participate in our survey. Survey link: http://survey.utk.edu/mrIWeb/mrIWeb.dll?I.Project=FORUMLEARN *As a thank you, upon exiting the survey you will be given an opportunity to submit information to be entered in a drawing for a tablet computer (iPad). * 2. Have a one on one interview talking about the forums, how you learn, and tools used. *As a thank you for your interview you will be sent a $25.00 gift card. * Email lholt(a)utk.edu for more information. You may do either or both of the above. Please be assured that your answers will be confidential. No individual’s answers will ever be identified in any report. Should you have any questions about the project or our interest in using the results, we encourage you to contact Lila Holt, at lholt(a)utk.edu) or Vandana Singh at vandana(a)utk.edu. Contact information you provide for the drawing is completely separate from your survey answers and there will be no way to identify participants in the actual survey responses. Nor will contact information be used for any other purpose. The odds of being selected will depend on the number of respondents to this survey. Thank you so much! _______________________________________________ support-bugzilla mailing list support-bugzilla(a)lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-bugzilla PLEASE put support-bugzilla(a)lists.mozilla.org in the To: field when you reply.

Non-technical questions (and beating a dead horse)
by Hal Bright 10 Oct '11

10 Oct '11

Owen, I agree the list should cover non-technical threads and topics, but every question (3 in total) I have posted that was non-technical came back with A) please do not use the "reply"button to start other topics (that was the reply I got for non-technical post #1 and non-technical post #2 when I forgot about the response from #1) and B) a resounding silence on post #3 , #2 & #1. I then asked if there was need for a listserv for users (people who use Koha, but use support companies [the myriad that are out there] for most of the issues that come across this list). I was told no, that should be done here (after post #3), but still received no answer when I repeated post #3. I resorted to asking my service provider who provided an adequate answer. The above is supposed to come across as humorous, so a laugh is in order here>>get ready>>>wait for it>>>[Insert Laugh here]!!!! I have successfully posted technical questions and have received answers (and thank you!), but this is a tech heavy list. I still feel the need for a users list is warranted, but feel that this is a community decision, not one where I just start a listserv and invite people to use it. Hal

Koha Offline Circulation 1.2
by Kyle Hall 10 Oct '11

10 Oct '11

Hey All, I just thought I'd let everyone know that I've compiled a new version of the offline circulation client. Not only does this version not crash when you try to search a borrowers.db file, but you can now select where the file is, and the client will remember between uses ( previously the file had to be in the application directory ). I have created a Windows setup file available for download here: http://millruntech.com/downloads/koha-offline-circulation/windows/19-koha-o… If you are using an older version, please uninstall it first, as I have moved from a commercial setup creator to a FOSS setup creator ( inno setup ). I will be creating a .deb package as soon as I can. Also, now that 3.2 is out, expect to see some new Koha Virtual Appliances soon.
