koha on windows 7 install instructions?

I'm having a tough time finding information about installing koha on windows. Installing apache, perl, and mysql on windows is no problem. The issues arise when trying to install koha. The a2enmod and a2ensite commands are difficult to translate into something meaninful for windows (since my knowledge what these commands do is sketchy). I'm willing to document the process for windows installation and submit it to the docs team for any future windows people. I just need some help or pointers on getting this up and running. Also, the install notes say: ln -s /etc/koha/koha-httpd.conf /etc/apache2/sites-available/koha which I guess is softlinking the .conf file to a file in the sites-available subdir of apache2. However, my windows intall of apache 2.2 has no subdirectory called sites-available. Any help is super appreciated. Thanks!

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply. I will check it out. On a related note, when I search on Koha to these Taiwan z39.50 servers, Koha doesn't like the MARC records I downloaded. I wouldn't let me save the record because it keeps complaining about fields that are missing. I'm only vaguely familiar w/ MARC records. Is this because of compatibility issues between the libraries here and the MARC record formats in Koha? Do I have to play w/ how MARC records are setup? How do I reconcile the differences in MARC records? I used an open z39.50 server listed at IRSpy. According to that website, the z39.50 server I added supports USMARC, which is what I configured the syntax as. I also configured the encoding as UTF8 rather than MARC-8 (which the sample US servers are configured as). I have not found it to be very useful and instead do all the batch record editing with MarcEdit (free, though not open-source). When there are a large number of deletions, I use Undo Import if at all possible. I have wondered why the process of deleting records is so tedious in Koha generally. You cannot delete the biblio without first deleting the items attached, and that adds quite a few steps to the process. It's a lot of clicks and it's a slow process. One of our ebook vendors deleted a few thousand books last year from our subscription. The amount of staff time needed to go through all the steps of deleting those records was unreasonable, so we just suppressed the records in the OPAC. We would have preferred to delete the records entirely. In some library systems, they have a batch deletion method that allows you to delete records by batch uploading the MARC records with a "deletion flag" in one of the fields. Since our major ebook subscription vendor does provide MARC records when they delete books, it would be simple to change one field to have a deletion flag with MarcEdit and then upload those. It would certainly be quicker than thousands of iterations of the rather tedious individual delete item/delete biblio procedure. I'm just mentioning it here because you might want to consider incorporating something like that into Koha. There is no quick and easy delete method other than undo-ing entire batches in any version of Koha, as far as I know. If you are working on a tool that allows the deletion based on biblionumber or biblioitemnumber, consider including an interface that allows users to enter a range of continuous numbers, so you could specify deletion of record 132000-132600 or whatever, rather having to list each number individually. Having an input box that allowed thta kind of range of records would have made the Liblime tool much more useful, and would have provided an viable alternative to the batch undo method, which doesn't always work perfectly. As with the bulk edit/delet tool, there have been other features added to the proprietary Liblime version of Koha that sounded useful when planned, but turned out to either not have the functionality expected or else broke some other important feature when activated. For example, there is a "simple search" feature which was highly anticipated because it was supposed to offer a more user-friendly search syntax. The feature exists, but if you turn it on, Advanced Search no longer works properly. As a consequence, I don't think many libraries are using that feature. I've sometimes wondered whether the people active in software new feature development process need to explicitly include the phrase "should not interfere with any existing functionality" when they're writing specifications. It's kind of like the medical principle of "First, do no harm". Hi all I am sher afzal Head Bahria University Libraries Islamabad Pakistan. Recently we launch Koha 3.4.3 version successfully. I integrate all our sub campuses too on this version. We install this version in Linux Fedora on server. But now when I start the service of Mysql command :su ./start.sh The services could not run and show an error. Overdue Notices

We are currently working with Koha 3.2 soon to be moving to 3.6 but we have a question regarding Overdue Notices. Our secondary schools have notices set up to run with a delay of 0 days to 10 days (there are 3 schools and all have different delay settings). They would like one notice they can run that would show all items overdue to patrons when they run it on a particular day. For example our Senior High runs overdue notices every Tuesday. They would like any overdue items to show up on one notice for patrons so that they can print them out, cut them apart, and give to the patrons homeroom teacher. Can anyone tell us how we would do this? Can we set it up in Tools>Notices or Overdue notice/status triggers? Or do we need to create a report that will do this? best way to catalog new library?

Hi We're a bilingual school in the US that's trying to catalog our chinese books from scratch. Because I can't find the Chinese MARC records from US libraries, I've added some z39.50 servers in Taiwan. I'm trying to figure out if there is a way for us to easily catalog our books. The current Koha interface seem to suggest that I have to type in ISBN numbers one by one, it searches the z39.50, I edit the MARC record, and save it. I know Koha allows importing via Excel. But my problem is I don't know how else to get all these MARC records to begin with except through Koha. I bought a barcode scanner and I'd hoped I could somehow scan all the ISBN numbers in and some program will search and download all the MARC records in a batch format instead. Do you have any suggestions on how I can catalog my books? thanks! nancy

When I try to import the file into the Batch Item Delete tool I get the following message. I'm not sure I have understood the function of the tool as it seems to be asking for a barcode not the biblio numbers that I am trying to load. Software error: Can't call method "as_usmarc" on an undefined value at /koha/lib/C4/Items.pm line 589. Regards Ann Murphy
