Pacific Northwest (North America) Regional meeting
by Lenora Oftedahl 20 Apr '12

20 Apr '12

Hearing no other bids for hosting, I'm willing to pull together a meeting here in Portland. Here's a Doodle poll with possible dates that fit my schedule. Note that Doodle will not let me choose whole days for the Schedule Event function, so I chose the start day & time for the poll. http://www.doodle.com/s4gw83sdgaz27cdt This event will be open to anyone who wants to visit Portland. I figure Thursday & Friday for unconference then Saturday for touring. I can arrange the Columbia River Gorge, or Washington/Oregon beaches. Or, we could arrange a Willamette Valley vineyard tour. Thanks for that, but I still don't know why I'd care ... why would the user care what zebra is using as far as characters in the search string? Upgrading & upgrading
by Lenora Oftedahl 20 Apr '12

20 Apr '12

So, we've got the quirks worked out in our Koha upgrade. Yeah, us! We are also migrating our website to Wordpress. We've gotten some bits of info from Butte-Silverbow, but we're wondering if there is anything in particular that we need to be careful of as we install the Wordpress software on our Koha machine. Any words of wisdom or bits of advice would be lovely. Thanx. Lenora StreamNet Regional Librarian Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission

itemcallnumber field not getting everything
by Peter Aronson 19 Apr '12

19 Apr '12

In Home › Administration › System Preferences I have specified that the field "itemcallnumber" should map the MARC subfield 099aef. However Koha only maps subfields a and e (099ae)… It is not mapping subfield f. Is this option limited to only 2 subfields? Thanks, Peter

marc framework and importing records
by smurfett＠gmail.com 19 Apr '12

19 Apr '12

Hi We're a small school library and don't really need all the fields used in MARC records. But I would like to import my marc records using the import perl script. I was wondering, if I edit the BOOK MARC framework for example, and delete fields that we don't really care about (for example the 00 fields?) will I run into a problem when I import records? Put another way, if I import records all from the Library of Congress for example, using the import script, will the script fail if the field is not defined in my framework? nancy

Seeking Pacific Island Koha users
by Pamela Bidwell 19 Apr '12

19 Apr '12

Dear Koha users, I would like to hear from users of Koha in the Pacific Islands. Many small Pacific countries struggle with extra issues when automating their libraries, such as unexpected power outages (and damaging power surges), intermittent and slow Internet access, old technology and limited IT expertise. For many Pacific libraries, Koha is their first automated system, and staff training is a real issue. Quite a few Pacific Koha projects have stalled as a result of these problems. We need to develop a supportive local community that shares knowledge and offers support. I hope to set up a smaller discussion forum for the Pacific Koha community (while still being involved in the wider Koha community discussions). The forum will talk about day to day use of Koha, answer basic questions about using the system and share resources such as training materials. I would also like to discuss regional training possibilities. Please email me at: pamela.bidwell(a)usp.ac.fj<mailto:pamela.bidwell@usp.ac.fj> if you would like to be involved. I hope to hear from you soon. Regards Pam Bidwell, Lecturer Library/Information Studies School of Education The University of the South Pacific Laucala Campus, Suva, FIJI Tel.
