Search problem
by Araik Manukyan 18 May '12

Dear community, We are testing Koha last release on our server running under Ubuntu. Everything works fine with one exception. When we search the catalog for records in English the engine retrieves exactly what we query. But when we search for records either in Armenian or in Russian, a problem emerges, namely, nearly 20 different records are retrieved. Although the keyword/title/author that we have queried is being highlighted, it may appear in the page bottom. They are indexed as a simple text rather than MARc field. May be the problem is in the fonts? Can you suggest any solution to this?

Can anyone help a new Koha user?
by Stew Wilson 18 May '12

Hi everyone, I'm an English teacher at a high school in Changzhou, Jiangsu, China. I'm not a librarian, and have never used catalog software before. I'm helping some other English teachers here put together an English library for the students, and I have been recommended Koha by a number of librarians. I am not very technically proficient. I have never used Linux, so have opted for a Windows install. I used Raja Biswas' Youtube video<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou7WgoeSmOc>as a guide. The installers I used are: - ActivePerl 5.8.8.820-MSWin32-x86-274739 - Apache 2.0.59-win32-x86-nossl - MySQL-4.0.26-win32 - Koha2.2.8-W32-R0 I found that using these installers that Koha would actually install (previous attempts with the latest versions of Perl, SQL etc failed). So, it installed fine, but when I type in "intranet" or "opac" it gives me the dreaded 500 server error: "Premature end of script headers: mainpage.pl ". I know from my reading of this listserve, and from other websites, that this is the most common error. I cannot find a consensus answer - or even an answer that makes sense to me! Rob Weir's handy troubleshooting guide<http://www.koha.rwjr.com/Koha_on_Windows.html#d0e755>suggests that I post the error log "opac-error_log" or "intranet-error_log" into a forum for assistance. A search of my computer reveals neither of these files. I have to assume that something isn't running. I do have an error log for Apache, but it seems to be ok. When I type in localhost, I get the message "it works!", so I'd think Apache should be fine. I read that error 500 is sometimes caused by a lack of permissions in ActivePerl, but I have yet to find a way to fix this that makes even the remotest sense to me. I've had a look at the "WinMySQL" program that is located in the Koha folder of the start menu. When I right-click and select "start service", the traffic light goes green for about a second and then goes red again. I hope that's useful! Sorry to be a pain with the same old error that everyone strikes. But if anyone could help me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, Stew Wilson

Printing Dewey spine labels in Koha 4.06

Could anyone help me print a Dewey spine label in Koha 4.06? I have an error message and also am not sure of the logistics - do I get a single-label printer and do one at a time? I am setting up a new library in Baltimore, MD, USA and have about 4,000 books to label. Here is the error message: Koha error The following fatal error has occurred: DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Table 'koha_bcpss.printers_profile' doesn't exist at /home/ptfs/kohaclone/C4/Labels/Lib.pm line 215. Touring around Europe after KohaCon
by Robin Sheat 17 May '12

17 May '12

Hi Koha folks, After KohaCon I'm going to be spending some time in Europe, working with Catalyst's EU branch in Brighton, BibLibre in France and BSZ in Germany, followed by a bit of working-holiday, probably around the Netherlands. While there, I'll be available to give demos, training, and whatever else people might be interested in. The training and demos can be to libraries/librarians, or if other Koha developers want to know about technical stuff (especially but not exclusively the sysadmin side of things, or migration), that's an option. So if you know any libraries in or around these places that are thinking about Koha, or want to see how it works, or want to talk about services related to Koha, or anything else in this vein: please put them in touch with me, I'll be able to arrange to travel to them. My rough dates over that way are from the start of June (when KohaCon is) to about the middle of September. (Also: if anyone here wants to meet up for a beer while I'm nearby, feel free to let me know :) Robin.

My personal choice for a database such as this would be MySQL since it's already installed for Koha :-) Randy Rowe Lincoln City Libraries I.T. -----Original Message----- From: "glaws" <glawson(a)rhcl.org> Sent 5/16/2012 3:40:33 PM To: koha(a)lists.katipo.co.nz Subject: Re: [Koha] Recent Comments page Sue: I found the cemetary link on your Koha OPAC site interesting. Re: [Koha] Printing Dewey spine labels in Koha 4.06
by Randall Rowe 17 May '12

Morning. To print our labels, we use Bartender labeling software. We design the labels in Bartender and use the MySQL ODBC connector to get the label data. Works sooooo much better than the Koha export to PDF functionality. Feel free to use whichever labeling software you chose as a substitute for Bartender. Search results not correct
by anjoze 17 May '12

17 May '12

Hi, I'm trying to improve search results using zebra. I'm using UNIMARC. I've tested it with version 3.2 and 3.8 My search is working but not 100%, the results are not displayed in the correct order. I've changed "Relevance" to other options but the problem still. For example, when I search for "História de Portugal" I get: 907 result(s) found for 'wrdl: "história de portugal"'. The problem is that the book with the name "história de portugal" should come in first place but is on page 10, it's on 186º position. I think that my zebra is searching for the "de" word! O maybe even Koha doesn’t like the Portuguese History :) I've tried to set the "marc_defs/unimarc/biblios/record.abs" the best I can but without success. Is the any example of configuration files record.abs, ccl.properties and bib1.att for UNIMARC? Thanks for any help, JA -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Search-results-not-correct-tp5709185.html Sent from the Koha-general mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Listing update-or-removal requests
by MJ Ray 16 May '12

16 May '12

The following entries on http://koha-community.org/support/paid-support/ have email addresses that bounce, discovered during kohacon-related tasks. Busara Core Solutions Email: bmugambi(a)gmail.com, mugambi(a)busara.co.ke Categories: Africa, Uncategorized host ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM [173.194.78.27]: 550-5.1.1 The email account that you tried to reach does not exist. Only the address @busara seems to fail, so I guess it could be fixed just by removing that address from the listing. Is that OK? The following have only bouncing email addresses. So I guess from http://koha-community.org/support/paid-support/how-to-get-listed/ that I should ask the Koha webmasters to consider removing them if updates aren't supplied. Is that OK? Pakistan Library Automation Group (PakLAG) Email: paklagkoha(a)paklag.org Categories: Asia, Pakistan host paklag.org [184.107.71.193]: 550 Mailbox quota exceeded OSLO Ltd OSLO Ltd Email: peter(a)oslo.ie Categories: Europe, Ireland, Uncategorized host aspmx.l.google.com [173.194.78.27]: 550-5.1.1 The email account that you tried to reach does not exist. Sorry to suggest that, but I feel it gives potential users a bad impression if unreachable support companies are listed on the official website.
