by Pamela Bidwell 24 Aug '12

Calling Pacific Libraries: Are you using the Koha library management system in your library, or considering moving to this system in future? If so, you may be interested in a free one-day PASIFIKA Koha workshop on Monday 10 September 2012 held at the University of the South Pacific Laucala campus based in Suva, Fiji Islands. We apologise for the short notice, we are seizing an opportunity created by another workshop scheduled at the university. Space is limited, so please book as soon as possible. Regional and international bookings may be accepted, subject to space constraints (travel, accommodation and meals are the sole responsibility of those attending). This all day workshop is divided into two streams: Stream One: Koha users is based in a USP computer lab and covers use of the most important modules (Circulation, Cataloguing, OPAC etc), plus presentations on migration issues, remote hosting etc. Speakers will include staff from a number of libraries who have successfully installed Koha, including Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC-SOPAC), the Solomon Islands College of Higher Education (SICHE) and the University of the South Pacific (used for teaching purposes). Stream Two is for IT staff working or intending to work with Koha and will cover installation and maintenance issues for Koha, and includes a demonstration of a Koha installation. IT staff from libraries who have successfully installed Koha will be in attendance, including staff at Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC-SOPAC), the Solomon Islands College of Higher Education (SICHE) and the University of the South Pacific libraries. It may also include Q&A Skype calls to one or more international Koha experts (yes, we are seeking volunteers). Both Streams include hands-on activities for participants. Contact Pam Bidwell: pamela.bidwell(a)usp.ac.fj<mailto:pamela.bidwell@usp.ac.fj> for more details. We acknowledge the generous support of the following libraries in the development of this workshop: University of the South Pacific Libraries Secretariat of the Pacific Community Libraries (SPC-SOPAC) Solomon Islands College of Higher Education Libraries We are also always interested in making contact with Pacific Island Koha Users - even if you can't attend this workshop, we may be able to help each other. Looking forward to hearing from you! Regards Pam Bidwell, Lecturer Library/Information Studies School of Education The University of the South Pacific Laucala Campus, Suva, FIJI Tel. Problem in Amazon review integration?
by Manos PETRIDIS 23 Aug '12

23 Aug '12

I wonder if it is a problem with my installation only, or a more generic one: It seems that Amazon review integration may not work. I noticed that no Amazon reviews appear, at all. In the following example, koha can match the book in koha with a book in Amazon (US), as it can retrieve a book cover from Amazon: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22465174/20120823_koha_2.gif Koha reports though that there are no reviews in Amazon, whereas in page http://www.amazon.com/Picture-History-United-States-Maritime/dp/0486428397/r ef=sr_1_1?s=books <http://www.amazon.com/Picture-History-United-States-Maritime/dp/0486428397/ ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1345734417&sr=1-1&keywords=0486428397> &ie=UTF8&qid=1345734417&sr=1-1&keywords=0486428397 eight reviews appear. The ISBN number of my example is the same in koha and Amazon. I'm in koha 3.08.04.000. Manos Petridis

Hi, I have a very strange problem. I have two installations of koha one is 3.2 and other is 3.8, I imported mrc files for records in both the installations seperately and (mrc files have items information as well). For zebra indexing i use the fllowing command on both the installations perl /path/to/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -r -v Now, in koha 3.2 it works great. all the records and items are added into the serch and every thing is perfect. But in 3.8, items are not added into the search and when i search for a book, then items against the record says availability: no items available, however there are items present in that record. what could be the issue? thanks

Zebra Indexing: Search biblios ERROR 114
by luis silva 23 Aug '12

Hello, I have a problem with Zebra (2.0.32) indexes. I want to clear all my indexes and reindex all my records from Koha (3.8.2). To do this, first ran the script: ./rebuild_zebra.pl -b -r -v Result: Zebra configuration information ================================ Zebra biblio directory = /var/lib/koha/zebradb/biblios Zebra authorities directory = /var/lib/koha/zebradb/authorities Koha directory = /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin BIBLIONUMBER in : 001$@ BIBLIOITEMNUMBER in : 090$a ================================ skipping authorities ==================== exporting biblio ==================== 1.. Re: [Koha] Can data from CDISIS transfered to MySQL
by Claudio Kutufà 22 Aug '12

Hi again Naveed One of the software I support/develop in my company, uses isis as information retrival and has an export tool to Unimarc. So, in case you want to switch to Koha Unimarc, maybe I think I can help you converting your records from isis to unimarc format. Unfortunatly, no way for MARC21... I have no software to convert from isis to marc21, and so you need to use the marcedit tool or directly the isis print format Claudio At 21.02 22/08/2012 +0530, franc(a)library.iisc.ernet.in wrote: > > Hi all > > > > Presently i am working on CDISIS WINISIS.Now i want to switch over to > > KOHA.Kindly guide me can i export my data to MySQL as i have thousands of > > records of my Library. > > > > Kind regards > > > > > > Naveed. > >Naveed, I have two suggestions to port the data from CDS/ISIS to Koha. > >Option 1: Export the records from CDS/ISIS in ISO2709 (ISO) file format. >The ISO file can then be converted to MARC format using the MarcEdit tool. > >Option 2: The print formatting language of CDS/ISIS is so powerful that >one can export the CDS/ISIS records in virtually in whichever format one >needs.
