DOM versus grs-1
by Barry Cannon 26 Sep '12

26 Sep '12

Hello, I recently upgraded a site from Koha 3.6 to 3.8.5 (via 3.8.3). Shortly afterwards we noticed that there was quite a few biblios not appearing on the search results even though they exist in the database. After trying many, many things I decided to switch from DOM to grs-1 and rebuild the indexes. This has resolved the problem and the search results are now correct. Switching back to DOM brings back the problem. Does anyone know why this might be the case - broadly speaking. Should DOM and grs create the same index result set by using different filters or are these types of differences expected? Thanks Barry

New 3.6 and 3.8 packages - a note
by Robin Sheat 25 Sep '12

25 Sep '12

I've uploaded new Debian packages for the latest 3.6 and 3.8 releases. Normally this isn't worth an email, but in this case it's necessary to be aware that Debian won't automatically upgrade it for you when you ask. New dependencies have been added, and so it is now necessary to do: sudo apt-get dist-upgrade to allow the new things to be included. If you don't know about the packages, have a look here: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_3.8_on_Debian_Squeeze -- Robin Sheat Catalyst IT Ltd. ✆ +64 4 803 2204 GPG: 5957 6D23 8B16 EFAB FEF8 7175 14D3 6485 A99C EB6D

Koha User Community Forum
by MHE IT admin 25 Sep '12

25 Sep '12

Dear all, Is not better that we turn this mailing list into a Koha User Community Forum, where people are able to post replay and share experiences. Getting 10 emails unrelated to your quires via this mailing list is not practical. Please see what I have created here which might be useful for us, then we can have couple admins and then anyone wants to ask they can post their questions. http://koha.dailyforum.net/ Or if the project has its own server it is better to host its own forum with this WikiForum http://www.wikidforum.com/

Introduction and Support Request
by David Hale 24 Sep '12

24 Sep '12

Hello All, My name is David Hale, I am an IT Admin for a small charter high school in Utah, USA. I started here in this position about 4 months ago and the Admin prior setup a Koha server for our library system. The System is running on our win 2003 server, in a Virtual box VM with Ubuntu 10.04. The only instructions that were left to me regarding this system were to boot it, and it would take care of the rest. That was the case for the final two weeks of last school year, but i haven't been able to get it to come up this year, and I am unable to see what might be causing the issue. The VM has an IP address, IT pings our Default Gateway, so I know the networking is functioning, but all I seem to get is a VM with a Koha desktop background. I cannot find any reference to a server application nor do I see any database file. I am wholly unfamiliar with the nature of the application, so I am hoping for some enlightenment on how this operates, how I can verify that the database of out Library is still in the VM machine, and where I can try and activate the server software to give access to the students. If it is feasible, I would like to backup the database, and I could re-setup the VM and import the database into the new machine. My thanks in advance, and please tell me if this is the right place to be asking these questions, I am sorry for my ignorance. Thanks David Hale -- David Hale Technology Director Fast Forward Charter High School 435-713-2455 ext 230

Search does not return a specific title
by Marty 23 Sep '12

23 Sep '12

Hi all, This might just have to do with the way Koha operates, but we have a book here with the very (annoyingly?) short title "Lit!" (by Tony Reinke, ISBN9781433522260 if you are interested) If we search for "Lit" it will return all results wherever "Lit" is used, like Literature, little children etc. "Lit!" is also in that list. If we search for "Lit!" however, we get no results found. We are getting either too many results (everything including lit somewhere) or none at all. It is in the system, but just hard to find. Any ideas how to solve it or get around it? Thanks, Marty
