Koha: staff guides (for Pasifika Koha)

Bula Koha members, A couple of weeks ago I announced Pasifika Koha on this list. The workshop is scheduled for Monday 10 September, and we now have 42 participants, so things are going very well so far. We have two streams - one for users and one for IT staff, and two programmes involving speakers, practical exercises and Skype calls. I am now asking for your help with a couple of things: 1. As Internet connections are very poor in most parts of this region, I want to share useful resources with those attending. Nicole Engard is sending some videos, but I am also looking for instructional staff files for common tasks like user registration, circulation, OPAC searches etc, ideally with screen shots. Staff desk manuals, or guides for users would be ideal. I have seen the documentation on the Koha community site, but I want to fill gaps. I am particularly interested in guides to OPAC searches, Acquisition functions and running common Reports. If you can point me to useful files that would be helpful. Videos are good, but bandwidth issues mean I can only download a few. You need to agree that what you send will be shared widely amongst Pacific Koha users (I will always fully acknowledge their source). If you can help please send me an email. We have the fastest Internet connections in this part of the world, but if you have many resources I am trying to arrange an ftp address for downloads (or bitTorrent - although I have only used that once...). 2. Also, can anyone send me records for bulk importing? I've never done that before either, so basic advice on how to do it would be helpful (although I will be watching the Bywater videos, of course). I need a good range of records so registrants can run OPAC searches. How to joint marc sub fields?

Dear Friends, We are trying to migrate data from SOUL to Koha. We exported data from SOUL as CCF and then converted to MARC 21. We are in final stage of marc conversion. One problem faced in this stage is copy a particular sub field data to another different marc field. How to joint or copy call number in 082$a to 952 ? Call number in 952$o is essential to display in OPAC. We are using MARCEdit for conversion and editing MARC. Please help us to solve this thing. I appreciate the theory that /etc/cron.d/koha (as I quoted it above) should|could|would pick up the variables KOHA_CONF, KOHAPATH and PERL5LIB In fact I think this worked for Koha 3.6.7 on Ubuntu 12.04 *i386* (from my notes, no errors; but that install has been trashed) -- but it does NOT work on either of our two 64 bit servers -- hence the need to add the 'export' lines to /home/koha.bashrc and make them available *before* the cron job is called. I have not had time to find out *why* the 32- and 64-bit builds possibly differ and satisfy my curiosity. All I've done is come up with a working solution and share it with this community -- with the caveat that YMMV and there might well be other [more elegant?] ways around it. Best - Paul

No search results

We updated to 3.8 recently and then had trouble with searching - items would show up appropriately in the search, but they would all say "No items available". After some difficulty, our IT tech was able to reindex zebra and the item availability is now correct. He set the reindex to run nightly as we are a small library that only adds new materials weekly. However, I'm now having a problem with items not being found on search at all. Most searches show "no results for..." - this is for older items and recently added items. I believe these items were coming up in search before the reindex (although they all said no items available). Any suggestions?

My Koha is down .. Software error?

Hello! I am getting the error below.... We can get into MYSQL from the command line. The Koha database and tables are viewable through MYSQL. I am getting this error on both the OPAC and the server. The file Koha.conf is world readable, owned by root, and has a group of www-data. Greek character sets in koha?

I was wondering how might koha become to recognise the following character sets Character Set: ISO 8859-7 (ELOT 928) ISO 5428 that are used in Greek libraries, like http://argo.ekt.gr/Opac2_3/Help/Databases/ENU/UOM_EN_.html From a reply to an older similtar question, for some other non-yet-supported language, I came to understand that it is a perl limitation and that koha only uses the multi-language support provided by perl, as and when. Is that correct? BTW, the Z39.50 target above is from one of the very few libraries in Greece that use MARC21 syntax ( for reasons described in http://unimarc2meeting.bnportugal.pt/documentos/10_Joanna_Demopolous.pdf ) so it might be of use for those of you that also use USMARC/MARC21 in your installations. "Suspension in Days" is confusing

.Dear Friends, I have confusion regarding "Suspension in Days" option in Administration > Circulation and Fine Rules. I understood that, patron membership will suspend (Freeze) after specific days. opaccloud syspref

Hi, I can't find the OpacCloud syspref. Has this been removed? (koha 3.8.2, from debian apt repository) I currently have two links in my opac that don't work: 'Tag Cloud' and 'Subject Cloud'. I'm not sure what exactly they do, so I wanted to disable them for now... Regards, Mourik Jan
