Good idea ".on"s. IMHO, you can't set placheholders using this.value. My proposal: $(document).ready(function(){ $('#transl1').attr('placeholder','Start your search here') .on('focus',function(){ if ($(this).attr('placeholder') == 'Start your search here') { $(this).attr('placeholder',''); } }) .on('blur',function(){ if ($(this).attr('placeholder') == '') { $(this).attr('placeholder','Start your search here'); } }); }); HTH. A question about showing rental fees on the circulation screen
by Owen Leonard 09 Aug '13

09 Aug '13

This question is for libraries who charge rental fees based on item type. Are there any of you out there? There is a bug with the way those rental charges are displayed and totaled: http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=10007 In short, the listing of individual rental charges on the circulation page is potentially inaccurate, and the total of all rental charges shown is potentially inaccurate. Before we take any action to fix the problem I would like to know if it is really necessary to display rental charges on the checkout screen? If a patron has existing fines or charges a message is shown at the top of the screen with the total. Those of use you charge rental fees, is it important to show rental fees on the checkout screen, or is it sufficient to see a total amount owed? Clicking through to the Fines page shows you accurate details of any outstanding fees or charges. Please help me out with your opinion! -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org

JQuery Help
by Nicole Engard 08 Aug '13

08 Aug '13

Hello all, I'm wondering if someone could help me with some Jquery. I wonder if we can add the words "Start your search here" to the search box at the top of the OPAC main page, a message that gets replaced when patron starts to type. Thanks Nicole

Re: [Koha] Type vs. Item Type
by Steven Nickerson 07 Aug '13

I had asked about this a couple of weeks ago and I thought I'd follow-up in case this helps anyone else. I got responses from David Cook and Gay Richards (THANKS!!!) that led me to the "LEADER" field in the biblioitems.marcxml DB column. This is a "coded" field that determines the TYPE for that particular bibliographic record. In my case I had my items.itype field correct but not the data inside of this biblioitems.marcxml column, so I used something similar to the following SQL statement to update the biblioitems.marcxml field to set it correctly (replacing string "nam" with some other appropriate string): update biblioitems as i1 inner join (select biblioitemnumber from items where itype="DVD") as i2 on i2.biblioitemnumber=i1.biblioitemnumber set i1.marcxml=replace(i1.marcxml, 'nam ', 'ngm '); I also ran similar SQL update statements for VHS tapes, Music CDs, etc. In case anyone wants to learn more about this MARC field and the coding, you can find information about it at http://www.loc.gov/marc/formatintegration.html Here's a summary of what I used for codes and their meanings: nam = books ngm = DVDs, VHS tapes, etc. (i.e. video movies) nim = non-musical audio (i.e. audiobooks on both cassettes and CDs) njm = music audio (cassettes and CDs) nab = periodicals and magazines nrm = 3-dimensional items such as games, puzzles, etc. nem = maps And finally, as David Cook pointed out to me, here are the options for dealing with this issue in case anyone else sees similar results in their OPAC search: 1) Turn off the "DisplayOPACiconsXSLT" system preference. This will remove the "Type", "Format", etc. information from the OPAC search results (although it will still display in the intranet, if you've enabled XSLT there). 2) Fix the Leader in your catalogue records so that they are properly coded (the path I went down above) 3) Turn off XSLT for search results Good luck! And in To respond to Tomas Cohen Arazi's question, I was specifically changing the HTML5MediaEnabled setting when I first encountered the problem. I tried it with a few other preferences with the same result. It wasn't the preference itself that was causing the problem, but something to do with the fact that I had searched for the preference - limiting the preferences displayed to those with the search term in them. As soon as I removed the intranet user JavaScript the problem stopped. > > > On Mon, Aug 5, 2013 at 1:31 PM, Elaine Bradtke <eb(a)efdss.org> wrote: > >> We've just installed 3.12.3 and I'm changing some of the settings. >> To make it quicker, I use the search feature Global system preferences. >> It brings up the relevant preferences, I make the changes and then save. >> The message I get back is: >> Template process failed: file error - >> >> /usr/share/koha/intranet/htdocs/intranet-tmpl/prog/en/modules/admin/preferences/HASH(0xbfcb09c).pref: >> not found at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Templates.pm line 132. >> >> When I go back and look for the preference I changed in the full list, the >> change appears to have been made and saved (and it works as it should). >> >> Have we got something set improperly, or is this a bug? >> >> MySQL version: mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.5.31, for debian-linux-gnu (i686) >> using readline 6.2 >> Apache version: Server version: Apache/2.2.22 (Debian) >> -- >> Elaine Bradtke >> Data Wrangler >> VWML >> English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org >> Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY >> Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 (This number is for the English Folk Dance >> and >> Song Society in London, England. Dynamically generating content for OPAC "main"?
by Steven Nickerson 07 Aug '13

07 Aug '13

Hello everyone, We've seen other libraries create "lists" and then populate the "main" section of the OPAC screens with those lists, but we're wondering if that content could be dynamically generated instead of hard-coded HTML? For example, we'd like it to list "NEW" items added to our collection in the last 30 days.but instead of us having to manually maintain that list of what's new in the last 30 days we'd like it to run some SQL and generate that list "live". Anyone know a way to do this? THANKS as always! Steve
