Formatting spine labels
by Giannis Tsakonas 25 Nov '15

25 Nov '15

Dear colleaguesit might be trivial, but after a couple of tests we met a dead end. According to the manual it is possible, when creating spine labels from /Tools › Labels home › Manage label layouts › Edit Label layout/, to have static text in single quote marks, such as /'mytext'/. It seems though that when placed in the layout editor and the /Bibliographic data to print > Field list/ the static text and a field/subfield name can not go in one comma delimited section, i.e. /'mytext' copynumber/. We have tested several options, but all result to nothing. In order for static text to work it needs to be separated by another comma, which breaks the line and it is not what exactly we want.Any help would be much appreciated. With kind regardsGiannis -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Formatting-spine-labels-tp5862428.html Sent from the Koha-general mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Re: [Koha] circulation parameters - patron categories
by Barbara Aristidou 25 Nov '15

Hello there, I need your valuable help. I have created different patron categories and I want to add their rights, in relation to days they can borrow an item, the number of items they can borrow and the time of renewals. Unfortunately I have tried to migrate it but I could not find it. For example administrative staff can borrow 5 books for a time period 15 days and can renew their books up to three times....... I was highly surprised to see in Koha these lines are not consistent but instead over time they are changing not only the original amount but also the date! For example if accountline_id 1 originally had a date of 2015-10-01 and an amount of $ 2.00 it may have changed its date to 2015-11-03 and an amount of $ 3.00. Can someone please explain what exactly happens with the money amounts and dates that are listed in the table "accountlines"? Is this described somewhere? It is absolutely necessary for us to have some kind of proof how much money was taken in cash by the library every day and also over certain periods of time. What we in fact need is an accounting journal where ALL the accounting transactions are comprehensible over time. Does such a thing exist in Koha at all? How do other libraries handle this problem? "DataTables warning" on detail.pl (Staff Interface)
by le-grex 25 Nov '15

25 Nov '15

Hey, i have a problem i have no solution for: A user played (indeed on a "sandbox", latest Stable Koha) with user permissions and misc. settings in the Administration menu. And yes it's totally unclear, what exactly made this effect happen or what he did, but here it is: If you now search for books in the opac staff interface as a user who is not superlibrarian, i got a error message: "DataTables warning: table id=DataTables_Table_1 - Requested unknown parameter '8' for row0." There i can click OK and it's all working, i don't see any problem, besides this annoying error message. A Superlibrarian doesn't see this error. And it's only on the detail.pl view, so i.e. not on MARCdetail.pl and so on. There are two other Koha-Instances on this, they don't have this problem. I even tried to restore an older Version of the Database of this Instance with no effect. So i'm lost for now, not sure where to start. I hope you have an idea. Thank you, grex

Bug: duplicate barcode check while adding multiple item in Koha
by vinod mishra 25 Nov '15

25 Nov '15

Koha bug : Suppose a barcode number "1234" has been already entered in the koha system and if by mistake someone assigns again the same number system says barcode must be unique, but in case of entering multiple copy instead of warning system assigns next series of barcodes. For example there are 04 copy of the same title and user/staff enters barcode of first book say "1234" in barcode field and in number of copy 4 than system assigns 1234, 1235,1236 and 1237 but if 1234 is already available in the system than instead of warning it assigns automatically next available numbers i.e. it drops the first number (1234) and assigns 1235, 1236, 1237 ans 1238. My view is even we are entering multiple copy and if barcode is duplicate than koha should warn the system instead of assigning next available numbers ? http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=15249 -- With Regards, Vinod Kumar Mishra, Assistant Librarian, Biju Patnaik Central Library (BPCL), NIT Rourkela, Sundergadh-769008, Odisha, India. New records not indexing
by John Sterbenz 24 Nov '15

24 Nov '15

Good morning, all! Under the category of "Well, that didn't take long".....I'm hoping someone might be able to provide insight into this issue! CONFIGURATION: koha 3.20.04 on Debian 8.2 Using the "new indexer" (not quite sure what to call it--my apologies!) SCENARIO: I'm loading records through the staged MARC records process in Tools. Many of the records loading find matches and are successfully overlaid as reported in the final "Manage staged MARC records" report. New records are being created, as needed, based on the failure of the matching rule to find a match. There are links via the new record numbers to these records. However...none of these new records are indexing. The only way to get to them is via the record number link in the staged MARC record results. Attempts to call them up in any other manner in either the staff or public interfaces fails. COMMENTS: I'm working with files of 10,000 records. Over 99% are overlays--in a file this size, I might have 50 new records. I'm applying a different framework (one I created based on the default) to the new records than to the ones being overlaid, The bibliographic framework test does still pass. The new framework is being applied to the new records (and the old ones that are just overlaid are keeping the framework selected at the time of their creation) I'm confident the "new indexer" is configured correctly, as I changed the indexing process midway through the first load of files (in which all records were new and no matching algorithm was selected) and those records were all properly indexed at the point of creation. At first I thought I just wasn't being patient enough, so I monitored top until it reported that most system resources were again idle (this being an indication to me, right or wrong, that indexing had basically caught up). Nope. So then I waited overnight, because "why not??" Nope. I tried editing one of the new records (specifically an indexed field--the 245) to see if making this change might force indexing to take place. No such luck. The change is reflected, though, when continuing to access the record via the record number link in the staged MARC record results list. I'm not working in a production environment...I've got the server running off of a VM at home with public access over port 8080 and staff access over port 8081, using a single-server configuration (no separate machine for mySQL). Because there is absolutely no personal data on this server and never will be, I have no problems opening it up to anyone that might want to take a look. I'm hardly wed to the new way of indexing. Given the eventual use of this demonstration server, the "old indexing" method will work just fine for my purposes--but if this happens to be representative of a larger problem that does need to be reported for investigation I wanted to post this to the mailing list. I hope I've provided enough information for someone to weigh in with what might be happening, and a suggestion for how to address it. I briefly searched the bug list and didn't really see anything there that jumped out at me. Thanks in advance to all that might weigh in with things to investigate! E noho rā, Koha

Hi, Koha folks. Tomorrow is my last day at Catalyst, and the end of my last week in New Zealand. From December, I'm starting a new job that is located only 1,450km distance from as far away as it is possible to get from Wellington on earth. That is, in Amsterdam*. It's been a pleasure meeting those of you that I've met, emailing and IRCing those that I haven't, and I'm sure you'll all keep the project heading on its current course to taking over the world :) Interesting note: my first commit was on April 20th, 2010, signed off by Galen, who has happily taken over my package manager role with almost no blackmai^Wbriber^Wconvincing needed. I'll probably still be lurking in IRC though, just in a quite different timezone to what it was, and skimming emails trying not to answer them. Item Lost Status not showing in Editor

At least in 3.18.08, in the Default Marc Framework definition for items.itemlost (952$1) the Visibility constraint shows Editor as unchecked. We believe this is a change from previous. Can anyone confirm and/or suggest a reason? Its the same in a 3.20.5 that I just checked. Bob
