Considering upgrade to Koha 3.22 AND jessie (debian)
by Jesse A Lambertson 10 May '16

10 May '16

Hello, We are currently operating a .deb package install of koha 3.20 on wheezy. It is a fully operational catalog sans public interface. But we are about to polish the design of the OPAC to release publicly and I would like (if possible) to update the server to jessie and koha to 3.22 (which would also be a package install) before we finish that design. I have a few questions about this process and what kinds of challenges people are running into 1. Does anyone know how soon 3.24 will be released? I am wondering if it is worth it to wait until 3.24 is released as stable and update then. 2. When the update of the server AND koha happens at the same time, for what types of issues should I be on the lookout? I know I will need to do a backup/mysql dump beforehand: https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Backing_up_Koha 3. I have been told to ask if we can update koha to 3.22 without updating the server at the same time. What are the pitfalls of this half-update VS a total update of server and koha? If you have questions about my questions, please ask them. Thank you to everyone in advance for your assistance. Zebraqueue full, no search possible
by Administrateur 10 May '16

10 May '16

Hello, I have installed a fresh koha 3,22 on my debian 8. I have imported 3000 MARC entries from a previous koha installation. I have followed the procedure to add thoses entries to the catalog but I can't look for them as a user. So I think It's a problem from Zebra. When I connect to my database, I see that there is my 3000 entries in the table zebraqueue. I'm not totally familiar with Zebra but it seem that the search engine hasn't caught up with what I did. How can I make my search work ? Thanks. Regards. -- Fraternellement. Joël M. Administrateur Réseaux/Système. Institut Biblique de Nogent-sur-marne.

Translating books from excel to marc format
by Deb Vincent 10 May '16

10 May '16

Hi all I am using MarcEditor to translate our existing book collection from Excel to marc ready to import into Koha. I have read lots of instructions on how to add 952 fields so that all existing item data will be carried across, such as barcodes etc. I currently have the 952 fields in different columns in Excel with the headers : 952 \\$a | 952 \\$b | 952 \\$o | 952 \\$p | 952 \\$v | 952 \\$y | The data in these columns is, for example TGGS | TGGS | FIC | 0000220 | 3.50 | BK Would I be right in thinking I need this data to be all in the same column in Excel before trying to translate into marc? If so, would the header be something like 952 \\$a;$b;$o;$p;$v;$y ? If this is right, would I also separate the data in the cells with a semi- colon? eg TGGS;TGGS;FIC;0000220;3.50;BK Sorry for all the questions. It will save me a lot of time, ultimately, if I can migrate our existing book collection across in this way, rather than having to add this data individually, but this is all new to me and I don't want to make any silly mistakes. Thanks for your help!

FW: looking for urgent help

________________________________________ From: Barry Cannon Sent: 10 May 2016 09:45 To: Abdulrazak Aman Subject: RE: [Koha] looking for urgent help Hi, The WIKI page ( https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Category:Installation ) should get you started. If you've any queries, just post them here and help will be along presently. Koha can certainly be installed in a hosting environment but it all depends on the type of system (options) you go for. I would recommend going for the self contained VPS/VM solution. That way, you have full control over the box and you can manage your system directly. Hope this helps. Troubleshooting Z39.50 access
by Jason Loeffler 10 May '16

10 May '16

Hello. New Koha user here and attempting to configure Z39.50 for external libraries to harvest records. I've configured the server directive and server info blocks which I've shared in the following gist. https://gist.github.com/minorscience/d92d40f077b830c5985eed116d81b2f4 Not sure what else need to done besides bouncing the Zebra server. Any attempt to connect on the local network or outside network returns: Connecting...error = System (lower-layer) error Zebra is running and the assigned port is open. Any ideas? I'm a little familiar with yaz but haven't used it much in a Koha context. Thanks in advance. Searching biblionumber in catalogue using staff client
by Iming Chan 07 May '16

07 May '16

Dear all, Due to our workflow from Acquisitions to Cataloguing, we regularly search Biblionumber (Marc 999$c) in the catalogue when adding new item(s). It will be nice that we could shorten the search syntex of "Biblionumber:" to something like "BN:" or similar. Having to repeatly keyin "Biblionumber:" (followed by relevant number) is quite inefficient. Just in case anyone is interested: For every new item that we received in Acquisitions, we write the corresponding Biblionumber on the title page verso where a book label will be placed later. When time to add the item, we simply search by the Biblionumber noted on the title page verso and it takes us straight to the matching catalogue record. Once we have printed spine and book label sets (they are arranged by Biblionumber) in a batch, we use the Biblionumber to find the matching labels. We then place the book label over the handwritten Biblionumber. ----- Iming Chan Translib Information Service Melbourne, Australia http://opac.translib.com Phone: +61 3 9801 5097 Fax: +61 3 9801 4024 E-mail: iming(a)translib.com -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Searching-biblionumber-in-catalogue-using… Sent from the Koha-general mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Z39.50 search results accumulating in reservoir
by Elaine Bradtke 06 May '16

06 May '16

Running some tests on 3.22 before we install it in our production site and noticed something that I hadn't seen before. I added a new record using a z39.50 search ran it through the circulation system, etc. as part of my normal test routine. Then I went to pull it up for editing, and ran a search for the title in the Cataloguing module. I was surprised when all the other titles that came up in the original z39.50 search showed up as being in the reservoir! Will these things continue to pile up in the reservoir? Do they drop off after a certain number has accumulated, or time has elapsed? Is there a setting to switch it off? My stoic cataloguer hasn't mentioned it, but I personally find it untidy. -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 (This number is for the English Folk Dance and Song Society in London, England.
