Greetings Koha users, Apologies if this message has already been posted, I'm not sure if it was successfully sent. My name is Edward Mandity, I am part of a team exploring "future systems" for our library consortium (PALNI). We've been investigating Koha functionality and I have a few questions to pose to your collective wisdom. As part of our investigation, I'm on a subgroup that is exploring the ERM aspects of ILS platforms, and am interested in learning a bit about your experience with that functionality and how it may overlap with Discovery and ILL solutions in Koha. I understand e-resource linking is limited in the platform but I'm curious to know how you address this. I'll try to be brief; my questions are the following: * How do you handle electronic resource access in Koha? Is your instance primarily devoted to discovery of print / in-house collection items? * Have you used Ebsco's API Holdings IQ option for integrating ebsco's eholdings within your instance? If so, what are your thoughts? Are there other APIs in use or ones desired for integration? * Do any of you use an external link resolver/Central Index for integration or some other ERM configuration? * What is your preferred configuration for discovery? Do you like the out-of-the box OPAC, connection to open source options like Vufind, or other 3rd party services? * Regarding Koha's OPAC, I understand it is somewhat customizable. Does e-book access configuration meet your needs? * If you use Vufind, have you experimented with reordering/prioritizing item links by provider, replacing hold/request buttons more prominently in the search results/record pages? * How have you dealt with integrating Interlibrary loan requests within your discovery layer? Upgrade failure

I was upgrading my packages on Ubuntu this morning and the upgrade failed. The step that failed was: Upgrade to 23.12.00.044 [14:48:14]: Bug 36120 - Add pickup location to bookings Added column 'bookings.pickup_library_id' Set existing bookings pickup location to item homebranch ERROR - {UNKNOWN}: DBI Exception: DBD::mysql::db do failed: Cannot change column 'pickup_library_id': used in a foreign key constraint 'bookings_ibfk_4' at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Installer.pm line 741 The first step in the upgrade was to 23.12.00.000, if that's helpful. I am not sure exactly which version I started from but will probably be downgrading to oldstable until I can resolve this. Any suggestions for resolving this? Daniel

Out of memory when Koha starts due to opac-search.pl and 500.pl

Hi all I'm having serious problems with my Koha instance. It serves the OPAC for the Australian Speleological Federation. We are currently on Koha 23.11 on a Debian 10.13. The system has been running fine for ages. I was getting errors from the OOM killer: oom_reaper: reaped process 1554 (opac-search.pl), now anon-rss:0kB, file-rss:0kB, shmem-rss:0kB opac-search.pl invoked oom-killer: gfp_mask=0x6200ca(GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE), nodemask=(null), order=0, oom_score_adj=0 opac-search.pl cpuset=/ mems_allowed=0 So I shutdown Koha (took a while as I was out of memory) systemctl stop koha-common.service Rebooted the machine and when i bought Koha up: systemctl start koha-common.service Now I'm still getting 96 processes & errors taking all CPU and memory: 3620 R /usr/bin/perl /usr/share/koha/opac/cgi-bin/opac/opac-imageviewer.pl 3622 R /usr/bin/perl /usr/share/koha/opac/cgi-bin/opac/errors/500.pl 3624 R /usr/bin/perl /usr/share/koha/opac/cgi-bin/opac/errors/500.pl 3625 D /usr/bin/perl /usr/share/koha/opac/cgi-bin/opac/opac-search.pl 3627 R /usr/bin/perl /usr/share/koha/opac/cgi-bin/opac/errors/500.pl 3629 D /usr/bin/perl /usr/share/koha/opac/cgi-bin/opac/opac-search.pl 3630 R /usr/bin/perl /usr/share/koha/opac/cgi-bin/opac/errors/500.pl 3633 D /usr/bin/perl /usr/share/koha/opac/cgi-bin/opac/errors/500.pl Actually its 96 x opac-search.pl + 57 x 500.pl A reboot does not help. Every time I start Koha those processes appear and take all cores and memory. I do see that the MariaDB is down. "Failed to start MariaDB 10.3.39 database server." Attempts to start it: systemctl start mariadb.service give that error probably because I'm out of memory does to the 100 perl processes running. A "systemctl stop koha-common.service" does not stop or end those opac-search.pl or 500.pl processes. The /var/log/koha/opac/opac-error.log says: [cgi:error] [pid 6911] [client 124.243.148.74:47310] End of script output before headers: 500.pl [cgi:error] [pid 6959] [client 190.92.216.104:41580] End of script output before headers: opac-search.pl Something is borked :-( Help most welcome. -- Mike Sys Admin Australian Speleological Federation

Export page failing to load and related error

Hello, My catalog has been growing over the last year. Recently, I am no longer able to run the Catalog Export tool. When I click "Export Catalog data" I get a 503 error message "The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later." I checked the intranet-error.log file and see this message: [Fri Jul 12 05:45:12.477178 2024] [cgid:error] [pid 3064:tid 3064] (13)Permission denied: [client 107.122.176.130:41544] AH01257: stderr from /usr/share/> Can someone explain what this message means? Sitemap - impossible to create file

Hello all, Koha 23.11 I'm trying to run the sitemap.pl and keep getting the error: "Impossible to create file". I'm using the shell, directory location /opac/htdocs/ same as robots, and the permissions are all fine. Any idea what the problem might be? -- Christina

Staff permission flag

Hello I just need a confirmation that whenever we assigned staff permission to someone in koha it generate some number depending on options permitted, for example full access flag id 1, only catalogue, 4, etc and for others number in 3/4 digits. My question is above numbers are fixed according to the options permitted and will it continue in next versions. Actually I am trying to develop some tool and authenticate on the basis of flag ID.
