Missing Genres (and confusion over 942$c and 952$y)
by Chris Brown 30 Jan '18

30 Jan '18

Gentle Reader, We are using a minimalist Marc framework for adding books. We really only need Author, Title, and Genre. We have defined a set of itemtypes corresponding to our genres. Our problem is that values (selected from a dropdown) in the 952$y field on our "Add MARC record" screen do not reach the items.itype field in the database. In fact as far as we can tell they aren't being stored ANYWHERE, even though the "Koha to MARC Mapping" screen shows that 952$y is mapped to items.itype. See screenshot here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5bs9ipwh9y48ajv/genre-entry.PNG?dl=0 I would be grateful if anyone has an explanation for this or suggestions on how to fix it. More generally, can anyone point me at an explanation of how the 942$c and 952$y fields are related? They appear to have the same purpose in life. Thanks and Best Regards,

Hello, My library migrated from "millennium ILS software" to koha two years ago but still battling with updating and editing, in the process some records were lost completely why some appear in multiples. Pls. what is the best tool to carry out complete migration without much stress? Thank you. Course Reserves in Consortia | Visibility and Best Practices
by Kelly Drake 26 Jan '18

26 Jan '18

Hello, We are wondering about the visibility to patrons of Courses in Course Reserves in a Consortium in 2 separate scenarios. 1. If a patron is logged into their branch and they select "Course Reserves" do they only see the Courses of their own branch? 2. Additionally, if the patron uses a "scoped" URL that indicates a particular branch, and they are not logged in, when they select "Course Reserves" do they only see the Courses of that branch? Additionally, does anyone who uses Course Reserves in a Consortia have any best practices and maintenance policies that they would be willing to share? Any and all insights are appreciated! -- Kelly Drake HELM Project Manager kelly(a)flo.org | 617.442.2384

"run_safe_xmlstarlet: command not found" after upgrade to 16.05.19.000
by Alex Shepherd 25 Jan '18

25 Jan '18

Hi Team, I’ve just done an upgrade to my koha systems to 16.05.19.000, but after the upgrade I was getting “Service Unavailable” messages. I tracked it back to plack not starting. For now I’ve disabled plack on all the instances and restarted apache and they’re all working again, but performance will be less… Here is the error I see: root@koha:/usr/sbin# koha-plack --start bbs /usr/sbin/koha-plack: line 77: run_safe_xmlstarlet: command not found Any suggestions? Bare Bones Import and Merge with Card Data
by Alvin W. 25 Jan '18

25 Jan '18

I've setup a new Koha on an Ubuntu server and am preparing my initial upload of data to populate it. I have a file of bare-bones data ISBN Title Author I've been working on the assumption that by using ISBN I can collect the rest of the data from z39.50 servers. I have figured out how to run a z39.50 search from inside Koha and I have been able to merge that with my items. But I haven't seen any way to automate that in some sort of batch run for all the items. Is it possible to automate the z39.50 search & merge inside Koha? Or would the better approach be to use a z39.50 client --before-- loading the data into Koha and when I build full-content records for the import. I've looked at z39.50 client software and almost all of it is either not supported, not found, or very, very old -- one link said it was for Windows 95! So -- to add card catalog/Marc data to complete my bare bones list -- can it be done in Koha or should I build those record before the Import? If before the import, can anyone recommend a z39.50 client? thanks very much for any help!!
