Using Koha for school textbook loan scheme

Hi - I am the IT coordinator in a school in Ireland (by coordinator it doesn't mean that I know anything about IT). Our school intends to implement a school textbook loan scheme in order to reduce the cost of providing school textbooks for parents. I search for information but the only thing I could find went back to 2009. We have between 90-130 students per year group and each student would be receiving approx 15 different textbooks. The students would be entitled to retain the books for 1-3 years depending on their course cycle. Our intention is to barcode each copy of the textbook and scan it as it is issued to each student. We need to be able to generate year group lists/reports for each textbook and lists of which books are outstanding and to which student at the end of each course cycle. Simple question - I hope - is it possible to use Koha in this way? Implementing Koha for the First Time

Greetings, everyone! First and foremost, I wish to thank everyone for help in installing Koha. Second, I forgot a few times to copy the title line ("subject") from various posts to this discussion email group. I'm sorry for doing so. I'll make the effort to be more diligent in the future. I have recently moved to another library and I find myself tasked with implementing Koha here. This is the first time I have had to do something like this. While I was the system administrator for my old library's InnoPAC/Millennium, it amounted to changing preferences, options, settings, etc., installing system updates, and occasionally teaching the staff on new and updated features. I did change the hard drives a few times, but by and large InnoPAC/Millennium ran itself. Network issues were handled by IT staff both internal to the library and external to it. To experiment with Koha, I found Josh Hertel's testlibrary Koha 3.2 Debian Jessie. Because my new library doesn't yet have permission to implement Koha on the system, we set it up on a demonstration machine. It's a Mac laptop running Mojave, and Koha runs in emulation in VirtualBox Debian 9.9. I recently discovered that my new library uses MARC tag 242 (title translation) extensively. Koha doesn't index 242 automatically from what I can tell. I found instructions on how to add a tag to the indexing, but I cannot add 242 in Hertel's test library because he apparently locked out access to the underlying Debian OS. I could convert tag 242 to 740 through MarcEdit and solve the problem that way. But I feel compelled to preserve 242 given the environment. And it would address another underlying problem, to wit: local library decisions on what (additional) tags to index and what tags not to index in cases like mine. I don't want to get into a full discussion of the underlying philosophical problem; just the immediate problem of indexing 242 will do for the present. So I have to connect to my implementation of Koha and begin using it henceforth. But, while I can connect to Hertel's test library, I cannot connect to my implementation of Koha. I have followed his installation instructions and the installation of several videos presented on YouTube (with adjustment for updates and upgrades in Debian, adjustments for Ubuntu vs. Debian, differences between Parallels and VirtualBox, etc.). The settings look the same to me. But clearly I missed something. Can anyone suggest what I missed? Thanks for your help, all. -- -- Charles. Collection Search is not working under advance search

To all Koha users, In our online library, we have enabled COLLECTION and it is available under advance search also. We have a lot of language books also. Problem 1: When collection is working then language search does not work. Problem 2: If "charmap word-phrase-utf.chr" is disabled and "icuchain words-icu.xml" is enabled in /etc/koha/zebradb/etc/default.idx, then language search will work but not collection. Additional information: At the same time we noticed some thing else also. One of the collections we have is "Science" and the code is "SCI". When we select this and search in Advance search it says: Results of search with limit(s): 'mc-ccode:'SCI'' No results found! At the same time if we search mc-ccode:SCI in the opac search box (without the apostrophe), it shows: Results of search for 'mc-ccode:SCI' and all result will appear. Does Koha log when a circulation rule gets changed?

Gentle Reader, One of our libraries has discovered they have a "rogue" circulation rule and we are trying to establish how long this rule has been present. I know that Koha logs things like checkouts and checkins and patron modifications, but does it log when a change is made to the circulation rules? I can't see it in the log viewer tool. Query regarding OPAC View

Hello! I am facing an issue with the OPAC view, I imported the files i.e. e-documents, Media, etc but in the OPAC it does not show me the DDC and Material Type. I tried adding the material type but it only shows as books. Kindly help me with the same. Regards, Sugandha.

Koha 19.05 fresh installation error

I could upgrade koha from 18.11.05 to 19.05. However, I am not able to do fresh installation of Koha 19.05 on Ubuntu Server 18.04.2. I could update & upgrade. But after adding Koha Community Repository and apt-key update throws errors like ... stable Release 404 Not found[IP: 67.220.127.145 80] The Repository 'http://debian.koha-community.org stable release does not have a release file ... see apt-secure(8) ... repository creation and user configuration detail. I have recently installed Koha 18.11 last April and seek help as per subject above. 1. I am using z39.50 to import catalog records from a number of targets and would like to know if the process can be done in batches to quicken the cataloging process 2. Secondly, how do I use OCLC in Z39.50 - can someone help me with the procedures to do this please. Thank you and I look forward to assistance in this regard. User MyLibrary Already Exists

Hello, all My new library is thinking of migrating to Koha and I am installing it on a development machine before installing it on the production machine. I have reached this stage in the installation instructions, to wit: $ sudo koha-create --create-db mylibrary The response is User mylibrary-koha already exists. Grand! I proceed to the next instruction, to wit: Retrieve the admin username and password from /etc/koha/sites/mylibrary/koha-conf.xml So I look for the username and password in that file. A directory /etc/koha/sites/mylibrary does indeed exist; but mylibrary turns out to be devoid of all files, and koha-conf.xml consequently nonexistent. What went wrong? How does one fix this?
