same barcode number

Hello, We (Addis Ababa University Libraries) have insatalled Koha 2.2.0RC1 on solaries OS. Now we are trying to add items to the biblio but it accepts the same barcode number for different items. Can any body help us? Cheers, Yohannes Mulugeta Addis Ababa University Libraries

Paul, Finally got around to looking at this. With version 2.0.1, I don't have Koha>>parameters??systempreferences??itemcallnumber. Can I add a itemcallnumber? What parameters or fields do I need to set so that I get the dewey # to show up in the biblio? Plz help. >> I believe that this is a reference to the all or nothing protections, which I know was a known bug. However, I don't know if it was fixed in the upgrade or if the individual is using an RC version. In anticipation of this eventually getting fixed, I created a staff account. As far as setting the password on the staff account, that I can help with. And knowing the fact that I am not Paul, I bet I have a very funny backwards way of changing passwords. First, log in to the Koha lime green intranet screen using your username and current password. I do a member search for staff. I click it when it comes up. There should now be a button that says "Change Password" Click it, change it, and click confirm password and done. Brooke @ Hinsdale MA

Hi WE have installed Koha in our Library.It is working only on one PC.The OPAC is running on every PC on Campus. But The whole Package is not working.Can we give limited access to our library staff. eg For Librarian Whole.For circulation Librarian only circulation etc. When we enter data in koha few fields are not show like DDC, LC or UDC. [ed. note: I believe the answer to that was the bulkmarcimport script] So, while I agree with everything Brooke said, I have to confess that I should have those programs from John somewhere on the HD and I could dig them up for you if you are truly unwilling to consider doing the cataloguing in what the professionals and paraprofessionals in library science know and advocate to be the best way, record by record. Just let me know. On another topic: I remember your name from a while back but I cannot remember what kind of school library you're working at (I am sorry if that seems obvious to others on the listserv, but in case people have forgotten, we've had theological seminary libraries referred to as "school" collections so I'd rather be clear). I would have some alternate suggestions for you if we are truly talking about a K-12 school library, ones that would provide more and better notes than LC tends to provide for Children's and Young Adult lit. As for the virtual shelves: I had the same question a while back. IIRC, the answer is that it is basically a way of setting up a bibliographic list, like for reserved books for a course or project. Anyway, I hope some of this helps. I'll dig up the programs from John if you want. In the meanwhile, I hope your efforts with Koha go well. Cheers, Steven F. wiki spam protection

i just read on the ruby-talk list (about the Ruby programming language) that they have a wiki 'tarpit' that spammers get routed to. it looks like the real wiki, and it's all they can see, so when they change it it's changed. they think they've spammed the wiki, and leave. it seems the ruby wiki has had other spam protection methods in the past, and since spammers could see they were being circumvented, they tried a lot of things to go around the protection. so if you visit their wiki, and your IP address doesn't reverse-lookup (i.e. there's no name for your ip address), and you haven't set any user preferences, you are judged to be a spammer and routed to the 'tarpit', the fake wiki. (of course they have a list of known non-spammers, and a list of spammers for which the above predicates aren't true.) the wiki maintainer then has to look occasionally for innocent users who've been accidentally routed to the tarpit, and 'rescue' them. but he said that in 46 updates to the tarpit (and 93 to the real wiki), only three updates had been innocent users updating the tarpit. i thought you all might be interested, what with the recent koha wiki spam problems. what's our spam like, anyway? am i right to assume it's mostly automatic spam, since the clearly readable username/password authentication is keeping it out?

Hallo Sebastian Here's a very usefull page about seting koha and the Z39.50 Setup http://www.skemotah.com/KohaRHinstall.html Remember...when installing Koha the installer advice of a common problem with red hat and the Z39.50 Server. I remember that was something like this.... add the following line: # include "XSUB.h" into yazwrapl/ywpriv.h ( You might want to check the spelling and the files if they are true) I wrote this down, long time ago but don't know if it works I haven't give a test to the Z39.50 Server yet. Hi, i installed koha 2.0.0 win32 version on windows XP. now when i log on to my webserver, koha homepage appears. but the question is, how can i create databases and administrate the koha. since there is no manual for using and administrating koha it is tough for me to use koha. so i'm badly in need of detailes help to use koha. it is also important that how can i secure koha. regards. On a recommendation from here I have been checking out OpenBiblio and Emilda in addition to Koha. What's the difference? I also see PhpMyLibrary and Avanti.
