Many, many thanks! I didn't use to have anything like that in RedHat 9.0, and was completely stymied. (Incidentally, I do have the httpd entry in SELinux, but not the mysqld one.) I made a lot of other trials (which I am not going to report in full here), but observed a strange behavior. I could not execute _any_ script located in _any_ subdir of the path /usr/local/koha/intranet/cgi-bin, even when correctly defined in httpd.conf, whereas I _could_ execute such scripts, if copied to /var/www/cgi-bin (or subdirs), i.e. httpd's default location for cgi's. Therefore, I was beginning to fancy that a possible workaround to my problem was to perform a new installation of koha under /var/www/koha, but I didn't try - THANKS to your most precious suggestion! Koha 2.0.2 Install problem

Hi All... I decided to have a go at installing Koha 2.0.2 on to a fresh install of Debian 3.0 (Sarge). The install all happened as it was supposed to and I choose defaults for everything. My problem is that when I go to http://server/koha or http://server/opac I get page not found errors. I'm thinking that I need to edited the httpd.conf file to add something, but I'm not sure what. Any ideas? Thanks Michael

The installer/upgrade scripts send this message when try to upgrade or install Koha. Any help? POSIX::termios not implemented on this architecture at install.pm line 109. Compilation failed in require at installer.pl line 5. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at installer.pl line 5.

a few koha errors

Hi all, 2.2 is out and i'm testing it, but got errors (well got them since 2.0.0) when I try to add a new biblio get an error just after pressing OK. Also get another one after adding a member (same thing) but this time the member is succesfully added anyway. But changing setting I don't get any errors seems only when adding stuff. How do I make the error be displayed on browser? I'm also viewing the koha-error_log and found very interesting things.... It claims for a favicon.ico (man what the heek is taht?) and the always spected Premature end of scripts headers. And a few others like ERROR: Date::Manip unable to determine TimeZone., Can't use an undefined value as a HASH reference at /usr/local/koha/intranet/modules/C4/AuthoritiesMarc.pm line 76., Ok i'm only asking for a few poniters. I've installed it succesfully, with all the modules in Linux FC3. Hope someone could help... Cheers bye... jose

How to merge duplicate biblio records?

How does one merge items together into one single biblio? I tried direct SQL queries, but when I remove the old biblio that I moved the items from, it deleted the items anyways!

How to use Item callnumbers and Branch categories

Hi everybody, I am a newbie to Koha, and I am practicing with Koha 2.2.0RC5 (installed and removed several times) under RedHat 9.0, before starting using it to run a branch of a university library. While I am getting acquainted with most of its features, some details are still obscure to me. Some issues have been already addressed to earlier in this mailing list (whose archive I tried to consult, before posting the message), but I was not able to apply the answers found there to 2.2.0RC5. Let me therefore state again a couple of problems I have, presently. 1) Shelving location/Item callnumber. I am assuming that both these terms mean "where a particular book is located" (i.e., at which position, in which shelf, given a particular library branch). From the Catalogue Search of the Administrator interface, I see that a Call Number is searched in the items.itemcallnumber kohafield. However, browsing the MARC/Koha association table (mysql table: marc_subfield_structure), I see that items.itemcallnumber is not associated to any kohafield, and is thus ignored by Add biblio. I tried linking items.itemcallnumber to the 852c MARC subfield, with tab "10", so that it is displayed in the "items" tab (which I think it should, since I would like to have one-to-one correspondence between callnumbers and items, as it is with barcodes), but "Marc check" complains that the "items" kohafield should contain only MARC entries belonging to the same tag, i.e. 952. On the other hand, no other free (i.e., not already linked) subfield in tag 952 seems appropriate, and if I link 852c to some other kohafield (say, biblioitems.classification, as was suggested in a previous posting) it would apply to a "biblio", and not to an "item", which I do not think would be appropriate. (One can have several items of a given book, located in different positions.) My question is therefore, how should I link items.itemcallnumber so that it is properly searched by the Catalogue Search pages? 2) I spent some time to define appropriate "branch categories" for a given "branch" (from the Parameters menu in the Administrator interface), but I don't see any place where they can be used to classify a biblioitem. For example, an "Item type" window menu pops down when adding a new biblio at tab 5 (MARC tab and subfield: 942c, "Biblioitem information, item type"). The same kind of menu is available in the Catalogue search page to select "Item types". I wouldn't mind having my "branch categories" as possible options for MARC tag 650a (Subject added entry-topical term), currently linked to kohafield bibliosubject.subject, searched for as "Subject" by the Catalogue search page. Should I define a new Authority for that? On the other hand, if 650a must be left free of taking any value (not just those listed in the user-defined branch categories), where can I take advantage of my branch categories in classifying _and_ later searching my own records? Howdy antipodean folks! We've the same number of approximate items. I feel your pain, as I too am on a manual card system until things are all catalogued. We're getting there, thanks to Koha! My server ran us about $700. If I were to get the same components today, I would expect to pay round $500. Remember if you run Linux that you've got an extra $100-$200 since you won't need to pay for Windows. My server is still overpowered, but if I were buying something new, I would still get a tier under top of the line. We also ended up getting an el cheapo video card at a local store. If you can rope in a local geek (and chances are you can) it should take them just a small part of their day to install Koha. It took my husband (who is very geeky indeed) about 2 hours. Upgrades take my husband about 10 minutes. Now, the hard part is setting the Parameters, which took me about a weekend of trial and error. Once you get them set though, you don't have to fuss with them again. Also, I wrote a Newbie Guide http://www.saas.nsw.edu.au/koha_wiki/index.php?page=NewbieGuide that tells you what those settings are, and now there's online help available with Koha. So hopefully, it won't take you a whole weekend. Because Koha is webbased, you can access it from anywhere. Both your patrons and your staff can. This was great for us, because before Koha, we only had one computer to do cataloguing on. We would have had to purchase rights to use another computer for about $2000 if I wanted another cataloguing/staff station. With Koha, you can catalogue from anywhere! Just like you can check your holdings from anywhere. I've also found that it runs faster than III did, especially when I'm cataloguing. This could be me, but I doubt it. I've got an all-Microsoft all the time IT department, and I'm looking at the possibility of outsourcing for server space and technical guidance. Koha 2.2.0 is born !

Hello all, Today it's an important day for 2 reasons : our preferred ILS has 5 years (project registered on sourceforge on 2000-12-12 22:46, but the 1st working version was in 2000-01-03) Today the version 2.2.0 of Koha is released. Here is the new features list. Released at first in New zealand, in 2000 januaray, it is maintained by a team of volunteers from around the globe, the Koha system is a full catalogue, opac, circulation and acquisitions system. Koha 2.2 is more than 247 000 lines of code, developped by more than 30 differents developpers (excluding translators). With the 2.2 version, Koha is now a mature product, with a lot of nice features. It's used in more than 50 libraries, from all kinds (public, schools, search, religious...), of all size (from 1 to 8 branches, from 1000 to 300 000 items). ======== WARNINGS ======== * the librarian interface is tested only with mozilla/firefox. Should work (partially) with IE. OPAC should work fine with any navigator. * Any 2.1.x install must be uninstalled before installing 2.2.0 No update is provided for 2.1.0. ============= NEW FEATURES ============= Koha 2.2 has, of course, all the previous features from Koha (acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, members modules, OPAC, complete MARC support...) plus the following new ones : General : ********* * (almost) complete rewrite of librarian GUI : now Koha uses CSS, and is easier to use. It will be completed for the rest of the product. * Better LDAP suport : Koha 2.2 can be "connected" to a LDAP server and get all borrower informations from there (including borrower category where applicable). If you want LDAP, just perldoc Auth_with_ldap.pm and manually tune your Auth package ! * Auto installer : if you install koha with ./install -i /path/to/auto_install_file, then Koha will be installed almost without question. A very usefull feature for developpers that want to install/uninstall Koha quite often. A sample of auto_install_file is provided in misc/auto_install_file. * Uninstaller : run misc/uninstall.pl, provide the mysql root password. that's all. Koha is completely deleted and can be reinstalled. With the previous feature, it's a very nice solution for test platform. * mod_perl : Koha should now work under mod_perl, that gives a big performance boost (Release Manager don't use mod_perl. fixes comes from A. Tarallo, Argentina, that ensure Koha works fine with mod_perl with the patches applied) * Nelsonville have shared their templates. They are available as NPL theme. * Language : in this version, only english and french versions are fully functionnal. Spanish and chinese are provided, but not fully functionnal. With this parameter, you can have your own stylesheet for OPAC, that will be used and kept when you update your version of Koha.
