Hi marty, your problem may also be due to incompatible mysql server version ( we have already had that discussion on issues with mysql 4 series and the need to revert back). I dont think not starting MYSQL is a problem as your KOHA will not start and will send u a error status 500 message. Also check whether in the z3950-daemon-launch.sh script in line 35 u have given the correct user name. and do use some standard Z 39.50gateways like LOC, AMICUS,CARDIFF etc., Do check ur mysql tables containing the z39.50 result info like z3950results<http://192.168.1.6:10000/mysql/edit_table.cgi?db=Koha&table=z3950results>where KOHA stores all the MARC info u queried on and z3950queue<http://192.168.1.6:10000/mysql/edit_table.cgi?db=Koha&table=z3950queue>to find out if u form the right queries with the right parameters and maybe marc_breeding table too. Hi all, First of all, thanks, Stephen, for your fast and helpful responses. I am tackling my problems one by one,as I meet them I tried to do a Z39.50 search, but I had some trouble, and I am clueless as how to solve this. -Question 1, do I have to set up something to make the Z39.50 start automatically? I started it manually (basically because I was not convinced it was running) but if I try to do a cat on a log file, my computer says it doesn't exist or just returns to the command prompt(see below) does that mean they are empty? I was a bit puzzled (not uncommon for me, but even so, I like things to work) -Question 2, the logs that do return something give this output, again, see below. Anybody can give me a hint or help where to go from here? Brooke, The University of Pennsylvania is using tags in their library. I think the Ann Arbor Library District is also. It is not unknown. Freetag adds tagging to a MySQL database, same thing Koha uses. Should be able to use that as a starting place. http://www.getluky.net/2005/04/16/freetag-an-open-source-tagging-folkson omy-module-for-phpmysql-applications/ Personally, I'm not conviced of the usefullness of tagging in a small system. Tags work best when lots of folks tag lots of things. Maybe as a personal management system for folks it could be useful. If they tagged something an item toread_dpb, it could be useful for them if not a larger group. Rating an item is a different tool. Recommendations could also be useful but another tool. Trackbacks might be interesting, ping the library copy when discussing a book. Maybe trackbacks would work best for Open WorldCat rather than a local library. Again, a few pings scattered about the catalog would not be very useful. Salvete! I try not to ask for stuff as I can't pay folks, but I'd love to see this. I'm not sure how feasible it would be, but I'll throw it out there anyway, because it could be something that would give Koha a leg up on a whole bunch of other products. Hello, I am quite new to Koha and am trying to install and configure it for the first time. I have loaded Debian, MySql, Apache and Perl. However, now I am trying to figure out how to load Koha itself. I download and burned to CD koha-2.2.5.tar.gz Now I am trying to figure out am I heading in the right direction? Is there Chinese interface for Koha?

Hello, I've just installed Koha on Windows XP. I am pretty new to this software. I would like to build a library catalogue with Chinese (probably Japanese) materials. Could anyone please tell me if there is a Chinese interface for it? Can I input Chinese (or Japanese) characters into the system? Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Cheers, Chi-Yu

No, because the call number may not necessarily refer to one, and only one, item. Choose a MARC subfield that's in all of your records -- perhaps "title" (MARC 21 subfield 245$a). 2. Do a catalog search against this subfield (from the lower section of the intranet catalogue search screen), setting the operator to "Is greater or equal to" and using a space as the search term. Hello, it's the second time i'm poutting a post in the list. Can anyone tell me if is it possible to issue an item without the reference to the barcode? Can i issue for instance with the reference to the call number? Second question: How can i make a search to the catalog that return to me all the existing records? I'm testing koha and i still don't figure how can i do it...with the software i have in "my" library (Basis TechLib) i can do that with "*"... Thank you very much.
