Hi All, I am working my way through your guide on Setting Bibliographic Data Parameters in Koha. I have got through most of the MARC21 tags I am going to set up, but am unclear about the function of the "search also" field in the Edit MARC subfields contraints for framework default page. For example In Tag 100a I entered the following in the "search also" field (as per what was aleady in the installation) '100b','100c','100q','100d','100e','110a','110b','110c','110d','110e','700a','700b','700c','700q','700d','700e','710a','710b','710c','710d','710e','720a','720e','900a' Should I then cross reference in other fields within all the 100 tag subfirelds that I am defining - Such as putting the following in Tag 100b '100a','100c','100q','100d','100e','110a','110b','110c','110d','110e','700a','700b','700c','700q','700d','700e','710a','710b','710c','710d','710e','720a','720e','900a' Or do you just put the search also information into the field that is directly linked to a Koha table? Dear Mirza Muhammad, Thanks a million for your response. I had not made the leap in logic to putting simply a 0 first. I will set it to 0,7,7 and see how that works. It states "*Each box needs to be filled in with fine, time to start charging, charging cycle e.g. 1,7,7 = 1USD,EUR,etc fine, after 7 days, every 7 days*." Z39.50 Search

Dear Members I am a first time user of Koha. I have successfully installed Koha 2.2.7 in to my windows XP computer. I have a few questions. 1. How do I change the login name and password for intranet access. I m presently using the default login and password. 2. How do I get access to koha from other terminals connected to the lan or over internet. 3. In the Librarian interface, how to set password for accessing different modules such as catalogue, circulation etc. 3. When I try to add MARC record with framework Default ( I typed the ISBN and used the Z39.50 search tab) it is giving the following error. ________________________________________________________________________ Server error! Dev Server Specs?

Hi, My library is currently using a proprietary ILS which meets all our needs and a good share of our wants. However, I've been watching Koha for a couple of years and have been impressed with its advances over time. I doubt that it would feasible for us to migrate to Koha (we have lots of bells and whistles with our current system). However, I'm interested in loading Koha on a development server just to try it out and see how it works with our data. We currently have around 500,000 items (250,000 bibs), 110,000 borrowers, and 10 locations. Does anyone have suggestions on what type of server specs would be good for a development server? I'm interested in "recommended" specs (not just minimum requirements). Most of the Koha libraries I've looked at seem to be using Debian. Would there likely be problems using another distro such as Red Hat? I think my manager might be more comfortable with a distro that has mainstream support available (we have no Linux administration experience). Are there any MySQL size limits that I would need to worry about? Is there anything else obvious that I need to consider? Thanks for your help/suggestions. Z3950 search problem

I met a problem when I tried to do a Z3950 Search. After checked the Z targets on the popup window and clicked 'search' button, I only got a 'server internal error. The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request'. The traces recorded in the /usr/local/koha/koha-error_log read as below: " 44:14 2007] [error] [client 19x.16x.11x.25x] Premature end of script headers: search.pl, referer: http://192.197.209.239:8080/cgi-bin/koha/z3950/search.pl?bibid=&isbn=159140…" Then after read some relevant mailing lists, I started the z3950-daemon-launch.sh. However, the problem remains the same. Even the logged errors remain the same without any useful details. The Z3950 log file is always empty. Hello dear friends, i nedd your help, i benn setup koha on my suse 9.2 but, when i try to conect to koha on my browser, dont works, apache cant start in the log of yast the next error are displayed. ............................................................................ /etc/init.d/apache2 start returned 1 (unspecified error): Starting httpd2 (prefork) Syntax error on line 28 of /etc/koha-httpd.conf: Invalid command 'PerlResponseHandler', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration The command line was: /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf [1A..failed ..................................................................... Salvete! One good way of learning how to catalogue is by checking out individual MARC records, particularly if you know their origin to be trusted, like LOC records. This record is from my hometown catalogue for an encyclopaedia. The MARC tutorial that Marty suggested is another good idea. Just be aware that some fields are local in nature, so you don't need to repeat them in your record. For example, the 49$a field here just shows who holds the set. I'll take a stab at helping you with MARC21. ******************************** 1. In our old cataloguing structure, when we catalogued encyclopedias, for example, we would classify them as COLLECTIVE. These were the fields used: 021: Volume Number 023: Personal Author 024: Corporate Author 025: Title 027: Total Number of Volumes I have visited many libraries' websites using Koha, and have noticed some differing fields being used for encyclopedias. Does the title of an encyclopedia go under the normal 245 field, and so on? I also noticed some libraries using field 300, subfield a (Extent), to record how many volumes are in that particular set, while other libraries used the field 520, subfield a (SUMMARY) to record their volume amount. ***************************************** While MARC21 is a standard, many libraries also have local adaptations. I know, I know, these practices make the standard less than a standard . yes, 245 is the title field in MARC21. That should be where the title is entered. The 300 field, subfield a is the extent of the item. Volumes, pagination, etc. are entered in this subfield. Subfield b is illustrative matter. Subfield c is size. 520 is summary, so I'm not sure why volumes are entered in that field in some records as there are note fields for Contents (505). The Holdings fields are generally in the 8xx fields. *************************************** 2. What fields do periodicals use in Koha when you catalogue them? In our old format, we classified them as SERIALS, with different fields as well. ********************************* yes, there are different fields that you can use for serials, but all fields are available for all formats. ******************************* 3. Are the control fields needed when I catalogue a book? ******************************** The control fields are useful, but I haven't used them much in local searching in many different automation systems. Some of these control fields are used for limiting searches, but there are workarounds employed if your system does not support them. You also have the option of adding these fields back into the Koha paramaters if you feel you need them. ************************** I'm willing to do some limited telephone consultations on MARC cataloging in Koha.
