Installing Koha on Kubuntu 8.04
by Jenny Scott-Thompson 11 Dec '08

11 Dec '08

Hi, I am trying to install Koha on Kubuntu 8.04, and having trouble finding all the right prerequisites. I have added the IndexData repositories to my sources.list, but when I try to install yaz, I get the error that yaz and libyaz3 depend on libssl0.9.7 but it is not installable. I have libssl0.9.8 installed already. Can anyone help, please? Thanks, Jenny _________________________________________________________________ Make a mini you and download it into Windows Live Messenger http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/111354029/direct/01/

add biblio error on 003
by Rachel Hollis 11 Dec '08

11 Dec '08

After a week of trying with Z39.50, there is finally a bib record in the reservoir! However I am getting an error message that I do not know how to resolve. >From the "Biblios in reservoir" screen Click Add biblio link Click Save button and receive the following error: Can't save this record because the following field aren't filled : []* tag 003 subfield 0 control field in tab 0 As far as I can remember I did not change the Subfield Structure for tag 003 when editing the MARC Frameworks Structures. How can this situation be resolved? Hi, I am using koha-3.00.00-beta2 and everything is displaying fine on the individual item side of things, but in the search results view, books I've added are showing up as 'Audio Cassettes, CDs'. Any ideas what's causing this? Cheers, Kate

by sbarve 11 Dec '08

I have installed koha on Fedora Core 7 OS. Can anyone help me to answer to the following questions. 1. I have added few records from z39.50 service in my database and have saved them. I have got record number 2 as well. But when I try to search the database I dont see any records in OPAC. How to make this in working. 2. When we add vendors in koha it selects only one currency for the vendor and its bydefault is $. Can we change this to Rs. or some other value. 3. Is there an extensive documentation available for koha. I am trying to find such documentation but I saw zip files and they are not very extensive. 4. How to set branch library. It asks only new library. I didnt find any branch library option. Re: [Koha] report generation-Till Reconciliation for each branchlibraries

Salvete! >That report has been discussed before and was purposefully commented out in 3.0 (I argue should have >been deleted) becuase it is not reliable in a multi-branch situation. At present, the branch where the >transaction took place is not logged, so you cannot possibly create a report to extract that information. > >Developers are fairly aware of this problem and are working to totally overhaul fines data structure. I don't mean to be abrasive here, but will that overhaul include a solution that is palatable to both single branch Libraries and multi branch? I'd rather not see things tilt towards larger institutions in terms of deleting functions that used to exist. I know that many people were turned off by Nomarc getting removed without warning from the code. I would submit that it ought to be an option again in the next release, much as I hate the thought of folks not cataloguing in MARC. I think it's quite possible to poll folks and figure out which reports are used most frequently and just have those included out of the box. There is some of this done already, I realise, and I also know that folks are working on improving reports. Is it possible in future to send out a note that the developers are going to comment a feature out or remove it entirely when that code isn't going to be reworked or included? Code changes and bugs need fixing, but one of the most attractive things about Koha to me was that the product was tailored to match the community's needs, and that generally once a feature was added, it wouldn't go away until just about everyone agreed that it was deprecated. It was an ILS that wasn't like other ILSs. I'm really starting to feel like the usability and innovation present in 2.x is taking a back seat to an interface that is increasingly resembling Horizon. Need help with export after using SQL on database
by Doug Dearden 10 Dec '08

10 Dec '08

I am running multiple databases and on one of them was having a hard time getting everything imported into the DB due to problems in the MARC records. I finally got a good clean MARC file created, and as there were problems with the record matching during import due to some extraneous characters in the title I decided to clean the database and import everything in again from the good file. I used phpmyadmin and did a DELETE FROM BIBLIO to remove the records, then the same on the biblioitems and the items tables. I also deleted everything from the import_biblios, import_items, and import_batches tables to clean up all the mess in there. I had used the tool to do some imports, but also used the bulkmarcimport.pl script for others to try and overcome the problems I was encountering. I then did an import using the Tool, and everything came in clean. When I try and export I get a koha.mrc file that is empty. I created another database to test, imported a few records then exported and all went well, so I am thinking my direct SQL action against the DB is what caused the problem. The first biblio in the database is no longer number 1, but starts much higher. The OPAC and staff client seem to be working as designed in all other aspects, but there are many that we have not yet had need for. I am concerned that my direct manipulation of the tables may turn up other problems in the future. We have made a number of configuration changes for this database so I don't want to start over with a clean Koha DB. Any idea how I can get export working correctly? If the answer is start clean, what do I need to do to get all the System Preferences and Bibliographic Frameworks moved over from the current DB to the new one? And will doing that hose things again? This may be pertinent: Koha version: 3.00.00.107 OS version ('uname -a'): Linux SAR56Linux 2.6.18-6-686 #1 SMP Sun Feb 10 22:11:31 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux Perl interpreter: /usr/bin/perl Perl version: 5.008008 Perl @INC: /usr/share/koha/lib /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.8 /usr/share/perl/5.8 /usr/local/lib/site_perl . Setting status in items
by Lenora Oftedahl 10 Dec '08

10 Dec '08

Hi all. I've got 3.0 running beautifully and have successfully edited records and added records to the database. However, one of my records needs to have the item status set to Not Received. MARC field 952, subfield 1 is mapped to items.itemstatus. I have authorized values for the field. When I choose the value, the program does not retain the change. I've tried with the 'edit item' screen as well as 'Set Status' in the Items tab. Any suggestions? Previously set values are retained and visible for other items. Just can't make the change in 3.0.
