Another UTF-8 encoding question

Play time is over and I am now building a couple of servers using Ubuntu 8.04 and the latest git version of Koha. So far the installations have been clean and easy. I have just one more UTF-8 encoding question. Being in the southwestern U.S. we are trying to deal with some titles that have Spanish character sets to go along with our primarily English character sets. In looking over Koha Wiki entry for encoding and character sets, http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=encodingscratchpad., I have a question about the section on combining characters and collations. The search entry may not necessarily have the special character, but we need to return records with special characters. For those who have had to deal with this, which would you recommend, utf8_unicode_ci or utf8_general_ci for the collation collection? The word Univerzalitás is a unicode combining form. When you copy/paste it into a text editor or use a keyboard to type it, it is most likely going to be the non-combining form: Univerzalitás. (in the non-combining form, the hex for the accented a is: Hex 0301; for the non-combining form it’s: Hex 61, Hex 00e1). Non-combining form: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/00e1/index.htm Combining form: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/61/index.htm http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/0301/index.htm Univerzalitás Univerzalitás It seems that the utf8_general_ci collation doesn’t support equality for those two forms. However, utf8_unicode_ci seems to work. Rebuild zebra once per day or more often?

Koha: Circulation due date configuration

Hello, I am setting up a school library for my daughter’s church school. Am using an older version of Koha. We encountered a problem while working with patron records in the Circulation module – was filling out the patron information and then tried to check out a book – a message popped up indicating that the membership has expired. The due date preference box has years up to 2008. Could that be a reason? Or does Koha automatically update itself? Installation error: can't configure

I'm trying to install Koha 3.00 on a server, and I've completed the entire "install" process except the final configuration. Jesse, Thank you so much for your help, we managed to delete the SWP file but still getting the following when booting up our system"Syntax error on line 668 of etc/apache2/sites-enabled/ koha-httpd.conf: No such file or directory". We have also tried to edit the OPAC/INTRANET configurations but it gives us the the very same old errors. displaying item types

Firstly, I really must thank everyone who has responded to my requests for help. I haven't thanked everyone individually but have had really useful answers to the most stupid-sounding enquiries! Another one I'm afraid- where is the switch that enables item types to be displayed in the opac? I get boxes showing location; call number; status and due date. (I don't actually want status or due date so it would be useful to know how to get rid of those too.) Or alternatively is there some other way of displaying the type of item (book, journal or whatever) ? I see on one of the demo sites that the type is displayed underneath the title, not in a box. Either would do me fine, just some way of showing what the item is. Thanks again Jan

Running koha from removable media

Hello Has anyone ever heard of anyone attempting to run a simple library management system off a USB Stick? With USB sticks getting larger, and various solutions offering to boot Linux from your portable USB stick, would it be possible to run a version of koha that could manage a small library collection? I'm not very cluey about client / database solutions, but I noticed one post mentioning Koha running on a standalone PC with the client accessing the localhost. Also, how large would a koha installation be? orders in acquisitions

Greetings colleagues, we're moving toward full-functionality and I am very excited. In fact just today I used Koha to check out two items to a willing test participant and was overjoyed with the screens! Now I'm working with acquisitions. Creating an order record is it possible to make Vendor Price and Purchase Order required fields in the same way that Quantity is required? Using "From a new (empty) record" I'd like ISBN, Vendor Price and Purchase Order to be required fields. Is it possible have a flat amount added to the Replacement Cost field based on Vendor Price such that if a patron is changed for replacement it includes a processing fee as well?
