Re: [Koha] Adding your own book covers to koha

Here is a simple solution to display your own book jacket in OPAC. Find the following file, /usr/share/koha/opac/htdocs/opac-tmpl/prog/en/modules/opac-detail.tmpl Open this file in a tex editor and find the following code segment, Line 57. <a href=" http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader//ref=sib_dp_pt/002-7879865-0184864#reader-link"><img border="0" src=" http://images.amazon.com/images/P/.01._PIdp-schmooS,TopRight,7,-26_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg" alt="Cover Image" /></a> Replace above mentioned part using following code. <img src="http://www.yourserver.com/P/.jpg" alt="Book Cover Image" /> You can place Images folder in your webspace called “P”. Otherwise you can create a folder for book jacket in the same place “opac-detail.tmpl” resides. Book jacket images must be in jpg format. Image name must be ISBN number of Books (Eg. 0060779616.jpg). Drawback of this solution is OPAC will not display images from Amazon. This solution earlier suggested by Ata ur Rehman for Koha 2.9. But this solution will also work well with Koha 3. -- Vimal Kumar V. Asst. Can't create a new thread (errno 35).
by Venita Glasfurd 22 May '09

22 May '09

Hi all, I have koha running on a shared hosted server for a small private library. For the last couple of months, we've been getting an error off and on as below. The application has been running fine on the same service provider for the last two years, but the problem surfaced a couple of months back and the frequency of the problem has been increasing. Can't create a new thread (errno 35). If you are not out of available memory, you can consult the manual for a possible OS-dependent bug at /usr431/home/r/e/readersl/public_html/modules/C4/Context.pm line 411 Can't call method "prepare" on an undefined value at /usr431/home/r/e/readersl/public_html/modules/C4/Circulation/Fines.pm line 78. I would like to know if any of you have seen this issue on your installations. My guess is this is a MYSQL/ OS environment specific issue, but could you please provide any leads on how I can pursue this with my service provider? Could there be a mysql code optimization issue? Should we be doing any database maintenance? This question may seem like a database maintenance specific question, but any help/pointers will be appreciated. Thanks, Venita.

SQL Report with Links
by Eric Bégin 22 May '09

22 May '09

Hi, I don't know if you are like me, but often I find it useful to get some links in the results of my miscelleneous SQL report. This can be achieved using the SQL's CONCAT keyword. The following SQL report list all items in your catalogue and the title is link to the biblio. > SELECT itemtypes.description, CONCAT( '<a > href=\"/cgi-bin/koha/catalogue/detail.pl?biblionumber=', > biblio.biblionumber, '\">',biblio.title,'</a>' ), items.itemcallnumber > FROM biblio > LEFT JOIN biblioitems on biblioitems.biblionumber = biblio.biblionumber > LEFT JOIN itemtypes on biblioitems.itemtype = itemtypes.itemtype > LEFT JOIN items on biblioitems.biblioitemnumber = items.biblioitemnumber Enjoy! -- Eric Bégin http://www.inLibro.com 514.777.6572

Strange issues with items after upgrading to Koha 3
by Andrew Yager 22 May '09

22 May '09

Hi, We appear to have an issue with our items table after upgrading to Koha 3. A number of books just do not appear in the items table, and as a result we can't issue them or modify the item details. We are running Marc 21 - is there a script we need to run to make this part of the import work? The Item Data appears in the Marc record in the biblioitems table. Adding your own book covers to koha
by Suchetha Wijenayake 22 May '09

22 May '09

Hello all. I am setting up koha for a developmental organisation here in Sri Lanka (you may have heard of the country, its been in the news a few times lately). They have a rather large collection of technical books that they have published, and they want to put the covers on the koha DB so that people can know what the book SHOULD look like. They also want to put the back cover and contents page(s) up in the same way. I have looked high and low for an efficient way of doing this, and I am at wit's end. Most places recommend using Amazon covers, but there is no chance the books will be on AMZN (self-published and all that dontcherknow). So where do I go from here? Does anyone have any ideas? Or has anyone done this? Thanks Suchetha -- Check my photo album: http://picasaweb.google.com/suchetha Rants Raves and Miscellaneous Musings: http://raramimu.blogspot.com Why do I smell brimstone? LDAP schemas for Koha
by Ben Finney 22 May '09

22 May '09

Howdy all, I'm setting up Koha for a client. They have an existing LDAP directory for user account authorisation, and want to use that for Koha's borrowers and administrators. There is documentation on making custom LDAP mappings, but I'm not sure what LDAP schemas are *needed* by Koha. What more is necessary beyond the common ‘person’, ‘posixAccount’, ‘inetOrgPerson’? -- \ “I watched the Indy 500, and I was thinking that if they left | `\ earlier they wouldn't have to go so fast.” —Steven Wright | _o__) | Ben Finney

Re: [Koha] Koha trademarks
by BWS Johnson 21 May '09

Salve! A couple of observations: Unfortunately most foundations are built on a corporate model, and corporations are not democratic by nature. I think we can do better than a raw corporate model. I looked at the list of Chris' suggestions, and they looked to have mature projects, like wine, on it. >I really would prefer Koha to be controlled by a democratic foundation >instead of a self-perpetuating one. There are risks to democracy, but >at least if it stuffs up, it's the whole community's responsibility. >Both SFC nor DSpace look undemocratic to me, appointing barons for >life to rule over their serf projects. > And how is this behaviour different from the secret invitation only mailing lists we've been hearing about? Is secrecy called for in a tiny project that as far as I would know would never have a burden that would warrant pitch blackness? Business to business talks ought be just that; I fail to see why it's necessary to drag the Koha name into a single business or two. Just as I fail to see why trademarking under a single or couple of corporations is beneficial. It is imperative that this school boy secrecy be ended now or risk perpetuating a good ole boy network. I don't think it's the concentration of power in an individual that's given to harm, bodies such as Congress are equally given to corruption. It's the loss of direction, neutrality, and response to feedback that is the source of the rot. >Anyway, this is all moot: LibLime are working on something and we're >waiting to see what they propose. > Why is it that things are more and more often rendered moot by unilateral action taken by LibLime when those actions have not reflected the will of the community? My problem is that they *aren't* proposing things to this list in sunlight. If they have good ideas, wonderful. Folks have offered help on numerous different aspects of the project at different times and have been sluffed off. I'd rather not encourage that model. I'm not saying that LibLime hasn't offered a substantial contribution to the community, and I don't want to belittle their responsibilities, but one corpo should not hold a project hostage. We risk changing the basket from being carried by all to being carried by one. That cedes our fundamental strength. Rather, I think we should start taking formal votes with reasonable announced time frames. Hopefully this will come to pass with feedback being opened on bugzilla or projects like the one that's currently up to allow for voting for Koha con. I'm also not sure why the trademarks are in corporate hands when we have established users groups that are certainly more objective. Cheers, Brooke
