Cataloguing coach
by Joann Ransom 27 May '09

27 May '09

Hi all, We are in the process of moving to Koha 3.0. Test conversions have gone beautifully, and everthing is looking lovely so far. Chris Cormack is taking us through this process (splendidly well if you ask me) The only difficult thing we are struggling with is cataloguing - in Marc! Its an entirely foreign process for us and it would be lovely if someone might offer us suppoort as a coach to help us understand how cataloguing in Koha 3.0 works. We are qualified librarians, and 1 of us used to catalogue in marc about 20 years ago, but we seem to be making heavy work of the templates and tabs and reservoirs and z39.50 servers (which work well). Would anyone like to volunteer to be a completely unpaid but much loved Koha3-Cataloguing Coach for Horowhenua Library Trust? Cheers Joann Ransom.

Statistics for Shelving Location and Collection Code
by Vicki Teal Lovely 27 May '09

27 May '09

Does anyone know if you can circulation statistics for Shelving Location and Collection code by location? In Koha we may need to use a combination of these two codes for display purposes. This will make it difficult to get statistics since there could be many different combinations created in the item database. In Dynix the display function and statistical function are separated. -- Vicki Teal Lovely vtl(a)scls.lib.wi.us Software Applications Supervisor SCLS Automation 201 W. Recreate items table from Marc records
by Andrew Yager 26 May '09

26 May '09

Hi, Is there an easy way to recreate the data that belongs in the items table from Marc records with the appropriate information? We have some records that have item information, but do not have a corresponding item. The item data is there from an old import. Running Koha 3 using Marc21 schema. Creating ../../opac/htdocs/opac-tmpl/prog/es-ES//modules/opac-detail.tmpl... Re: [Koha] Patron login, password, card number, PIN terminology
by Nelson Fredsell -CCE 26 May '09

Thanks, Agnes. One of our libraries doesn't issue patron cards (or have a barcode scanner), and as another variation we are even considering using letters for card number, so user: gorwell card#: gorwell pwd: 1234 Take care, Nelson From: Agnes Rivers-Moore [mailto:arm@hanover.ca] Sent: 23 May 2009 03:13 PM To: Nelson Fredsell -CCE Subject: Re: [Koha] Patron login, password, card number, PIN terminology Hello Nelson This is poorly labelled on the Koha system - I believe both login screens work the same way. Your patron can log in with either the card number, or the OPAC user ID - both seem to work. In our case we are using the card number as ID unless the user changes it themselves, so that there is less confusion. In your case: gorwell and 1234 - or - 3333 and 1234 will work in any OPAC login screen, whatever the screen text says. Try it and see! This goes to a screen that asks for "Your card number" and "Password or PIN" What's the difference? Are login and cardnumber interchangeable re OPAC and/or Circulation? Suggestion: Mysql backup from Koha
by Vimal Kumar 26 May '09

26 May '09

Dear Koha Developers, Here is a suggestion for coming Koha release. Librarians need a user friendly interface to export Koha Mysql database for back up purpose. This feature will reduce the difficulties of daily backup using manual methods (using commands). PMB open source ILS added this feature successfully. With thanks, -- Vimal Kumar V. Asst.
