I see on Twitter that Rosalie Blake, the director of the Horowhenua Library Trust in New Zealand, is retiring after 30 years of service. Saving MARC records very slow

I'd like to ask one question. When I am saving MARC records in Staff Client, after clicking the butto "Save", normally it takes 10-30 seconds in which the web browser is frozen and seems tdoing nothing. Afterwards it saves the record. When I do the same operation directly on the server, it is much faster - it takes only 3-4 seconds. But I can't let cataloguers work on server. Would anybody know what could be the cause and how could I fasten it? Thank you Ondrej Mlecka

I find it totally undesirable to make or maintain any changes in the cataloging module for the purpose of going HTML-only. Your sense of server-side processing advantage may or may not translate to an advantage in actual environment constraints. Consider that adding a repeatable field would have to constitute a new request and response for each element, parsing the marcxl each time, aggregating form state changes in some yet undefined table. The server might validate the end results faster, but getting there just became 30 times as expensive and you still need to round trip to the server to get the results. I'd wager that exactly zero of our clients would prefer scriptless cataloguing, and would likewise be upset for Koha to sacrifice scripted features for it. Cataloging is already a huge amount of logic. Duplicating the plugins to operate cleanly as server-side validators would be a major undertaking in itself, and be more likely to introduce runtime warnings and fatals. Michael- We have some patrons we need to see "hidden" items. We are giving them log on permissions for the staff module, but only to view the catalog,borrow, and reserve. Wisconsin Koha Enthusiasts Inaugural Meeting

Attention Midwest area Koha users and interested librarians... Several libraries in Wisconsin are using Koha already and others are in the process of migrating to Koha. Many others are interested in Koha (and other open source options). Koha enthusiasts of all kinds will benefit from a meeting to keep up to date on what is happening with Koha and Koha related events. There is also a need for Koha users to pool resources, knowledge and troubleshooting information. We have an opportunity to have a greater influence on Koha development and features than we could individually. Organizers are proposing that we call this group the Wisconsin Koha Enthusiasts (WisKE). *The first meeting of the Wisconsin Koha Enthusiasts (WisKE) will be held from 2 to 4 PM on July 29, following WiLS World.* WiLS is graciously allowing us to use a meeting room at the Pyle Center. Has anyone changed the layout of circulation slips?

Hello all I was just wondering whether anyone has felt the need to alter the layout of the circulation slip printer output? We find that the title often takes up 3 or 4 lines, which are separated by whitespace where the date and barcode number appear, as follows: The Lord of the rings, the 06/24/2009 219030045678 fellowship of the ring. We would like to rearrange this so the date and barcode share one line (which will fit easily on the slip printer paper), and the title has a whole line (or more) to itself. While it is true that it is hardcoded in some places (i have noticed it when i glanced through the templates), my understanding is that the currency which has its exchange rate designated as 1 is picked up by Koha as the default currency.
