Kurt, [adding the list so everyone can benefit from your examples] I can see setting a default 'not needed after' date in an academic library, since by and large most students would not care about getting a school-related book after the semester ended. This would need to be overridable, so they could place holds for next semester, or for pleasure-reading. It would also need to be updated easily by the librarians every term.... and probably on a per-patron type basis, so that professors didn't get caught up with the same default date. The other examples are very individual, and likely work well with the current, non-default functionality as it exists now. We could certainly add this to Koha, but figuring out the management interface would be tricky. We could set the default cancel-after date with the circ matrix (provided we got our ergonomic improvements for that down first), but perhaps patrons would want to be able to adjust these things on an individual basis (making this a User Preference)... -Ian On Tue, May 10, 2011 at 2:30 PM, Kurt Bodling <kbodling(a)mountvernon.org>wrote: > >“If you've got a use-case where a hold would need a default "not needed > after" date, I'd love to hear it; I'm having trouble picturing it on my own, > but I absolutely believe there is a possible situation where this may be > needed!” > > > > How about ‘not needed after 15 June 2011 … because that’s the end of the > semester and if I don’t have the book by then to look over I will not pass > the class anyway.’ > > > > Or ‘not needed after 23 May 2011 … because my Book Club meeting is on the > 25th and if I don’t get the library copy by the 23rd I will have to go buy > a copy in order to skim through the text before the meeting.” > > > > Or ‘not needed after 30 May 2011 … because that’s when the nursing license > recertification exam is and I won’t have any need to review the procedures > after that date.” > > > > . . . . that sort of thing. > > > > We used to get requests like that all the time when I was in a college > library. > > > > Kurt A. Koha: hold period
by Linda Culberson 10 May '11

All, This is probably a really stupid question, so I apologize. Where can I set a default hold period? I know that the patron can set a "Hold not needed after" date, but is there a way to set a default that the hold period isn't indefinite? Thanks. -- Linda Culberson lculber(a)mdah.state.ms.us Archives and Records Services Division Ms. Dept. of Archives & History P. O. Koha - Reference copies on opac-search.pl results list
by Linda Culberson 10 May '11

10 May '11

All, I was wondering how libraries with open-shelf reference materials are handling the "Place a Hold" link in the search results page (opac-search.pl). As of this instant (and we're a "work in progress") , we have "Copies available for reference" meaning they are open shelf and not on loan (i.e. reference materials like encyclopedias, etc) and "Copies available for loan" It's a bit wordy, and we may need to come up with a way of saying which reference room location they are in, because we have 3. You can see that if you click on the opac-detail, but it might be nice to have it on the search results page? Anyway, my real question, does anyone else have a "problem" (okay, not a problem, but an "issue"?) with materials having only reference copies, and then having the hold link? The "Sorry none of these items can be placed on hold" is okay, but I was thinking about maybe some javascript to hide the Hold link if there are no copies available for loan. Thanks in advance. -- Linda Culberson lculber(a)mdah.state.ms.us Archives and Records Services Division Ms. Dept. of Archives & History P. O. Hello everyone, Is that possible with Koha to transfer records (database) on a CD or USB stick? What are the commands to execute this operation? Thank you! Martin Caris

Kudos presentations
by Linda Culberson 10 May '11

All, I'll admit to being terribly jealous of everyone who was able to attend in the KUDOS Conference in Madison, Wisconsin earlier this week. I have found some of the presentations already posted online: Galen Charlton's on Metadata, MetaKoha ( http://slidesha.re/jk0BGJ ), Ian Wall's on Git 101 ( http://www.slideshare.net/sekjal/git-101-or-how-to-sanely-manage-your-koha-… ), and Ruth Bavousett's on Zen and the Art of ILS Migration at http://www.librarygeekgirl.net/downloads/ (Myshkin on the Lightning talk link is a twin of my cat, Sally, BTW.) Anyway, I was wondering if any of the other presentations are available online? Thanks in advance. -- Linda Culberson lculber(a)mdah.state.ms.us Archives and Records Services Division Ms. Dept. of Archives & History P. O. Creating Call Numbers
by schwitzd 10 May '11

10 May '11

Dear Sir/ Madam, We are creating an online catalogue system to document over 3,000 items that we have in 5 different locations. We want to assign to each item a call number so that once having found the item on Koha we can then find it easily in the actual library location. However, when we upload an item in Koha it has the subfield o- Full Call Number and this is not automatically generated - we don`t understand why this is because shouldn`t it be automatically generated based on the preference of the field 2-Source of Classification or shelving scheme (Dewey or LOC)?? Maybe we have understood this incorrectly, but what we need to do is generate a reference number/code for each item so that it can be labelled on the item and then put within the shelves in an ordered way. How is this possible? Thank you for your help and support, Kindest Regards, Louise -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Creating-Call-Numbers-tp4384332p4384332.h… Sent from the Koha - Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

mihafan, I'm not familiar with Microsofts LDAP schema, but, Are you sure this is correct?? <base>dc=koha,dc=local</base> <user>cn=Administrator,cn=Users,dc=koha,dc=md</user> as I understand it <base> section sets the base to start searching for users for authentication, not the <base> for the server? do you need to put in the full dn for the user even after you specified the "base" ? maybe try: <base>dc=koha,dc=md</base> <user>cn=Administrator,cn=Users</user> <pass>Q1W2e3r4</pass> Here is my working LDAP config. section for eDir. maybe it will point you in the correct direction. in the <base> section my T = my root tree name ************************************** <useldapserver>1</useldapserver> <ldapserver id="ldapserver" listenref="ldapserver"> <hostname>10.1.1.7</hostname> <base>T=ALMASCHOOLS</base> <user>*************</user> <pass>*************</pass> <replicate>1</replicate> <update>0</update> <mapping> <firstname is="givenname" ></firstname> <surname is="sn" ></surname> <address is="" >Alma Public Schools</address> <city is="" >Alma</city> <zipcode is="" >48801</zipcode> <branchcode is="" >PINE</branchcode> <userid is="cn" ></userid> <password is="" ></password> <email is="mail" ></email> <categorycode is="" >PT</categorycode> <phone is="telephonenumber"></phone> </mapping> </ldapserver> ************************************************** >>> mihafan<mihafan(a)gmail.com> 5/10/2011 3:14 AM >>> Description of problem: On local machine is installed windows server 2003 with configured active director. Duplicated authorities
by Elaine Bradtke 10 May '11

10 May '11

In preparing to do another batch upload of data, we ran a test import of authorities, and ran a check for duplicates. This returned some unexpected results. There are duplicates already in Koha. I currently have it set to allow the BiblioAddsAuthorities (on the theory that we're only adding downloaded records from reputable sources so the terms and names should be ok). However, when we download a record and save it, it creates new authority records apparently without checking to see if one already exists (or if it is checking, it's doing it invisibly and failing to match on the 100 fields). Now I've got a batch of duplicate authorities, linked to biblios. It is rather tedious to go through manually and change them one by one and then wait for the zebra to update so I can go back and delete the extraneous ones. Two questions: a) Is there an easy(ier) way to fix the existing duplicates? b) How can I prevent the creation of duplicates from happening? I could switch off the BiblioAddsAuthorities, but my colleagues will grumble. . . -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 ext 36 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Registered Company No. 297142 Charity Registered in England and Wales No. 305999 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture" --Elvis Costello (Musician magazine No. 60 (October 1983), p. 52)
