Authority record update
by Piotr Kowalski 01 Jun '11

01 Jun '11

I'm a newbie in Koha, so I'm trying it on a virtual appliance (Koha ver. 3.02 on Debian Lenny). I wonder why while updating an authority record (ie. Person Name) the related bibliographic records are left unchanged. That kind of behaviour is regardless the system preference: 'Authority dontmerge' in my case. It works contrary to the official Koha 3.2 manual (5.3.3 Editing Authorities). Can anybody be so kind to explain me that disadvantage? Best regards, Piotr Kowalski GWSH Poland, EU

I think there is an article on it in the wiki. Atleast used to be as I had put it in the old ko.org wiki. But here are a couple of links to the old mails http://lists.katipo.co.nz/public/koha/2009-February/017107.html http://lists.katipo.co.nz/public/koha/2010-December/026750.html Watch out for 952 tags as Koha's Itekm details are in there. That includes the item type, branch and barcode among others. Regards, Koustubha Kale Anant Corporation Contact Details : Address : 103, Armaan Residency, R. W Sawant Road, Nr. finding aids in koha
by Caitlin McGurk 31 May '11

31 May '11

Out of curiosity, has anyone had any luck using finding aids in Koha? If so, I would love a link to an example of a library catalog that is using Koha and has finding-aids. Wondering what a good substitution would be if it can't be easily done. database upgrade errors (3.0.5-->3.4.x)
by Christopher Chagal 31 May '11

31 May '11

Hello all, Just looking for reassurance that the errors I'm seeing in my database upgrade output are nothing to worry about. Most of them are messages about tables, columns and entries already existing in the database. There is one that I've highlighted below that looks more worrisome. http://pastebin.com/zNgxik9Q Line 161: DBD::mysql::db do failed: Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails (`koha/#sql-755_1d`, CONSTRAINT `subscriptionroutinglist_ibfk_2` FOREIGN KEY (`subscriptionid`) REFERENCES `subscription` (`subscriptionid`) ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE) at installer/data/mysql/updatedatabase.pl line 3835. 1. Am I correct about the duplicate tables, columns & entries errors not being a concern? 2. We don't use the serials routing list; can I ignore this error? Thanks for your time! Cataloging books which doesn't have ISBN etc.,
by Somasekhar Rao K 31 May '11

31 May '11

Hi, I am trying to catalog the books which doesn't have any ISBN etc., for me to import. I was using Marcedit and sometimes directly from Koha to add books. However, I was not able to make out how to store the cover image of the book. I want to scan the book myself and store it so that when the book is searched, it shows the image as well along with the other details of the book entered. Can you please help me out? Koha version: 3.02.3 Thanks & Regards, Somasekhar Rao K

barcodes not visible in OPAC
by Elaine Bradtke 31 May '11

31 May '11

We recently upgraded to 3.04.01 - Staff who work in the reading room have told me they can no longer see the item barcodes in the OPAC. I have a feeling this has something to do with the way Koha now handles the item records. The MARC framework is set to display barcodes (952p) in the OPAC. But they don't appear anywhere. As a stopgap I tried to get it to display in the ISBD but that doesn't work either. Barcodes are critical in our library as a means of differentiation between multiple (sometimes annotated) copies shelved in different locations. Many of our readers make use of them. Is there any way I can get them to display in the OPAC, or do I have to request an enhancement/ bug fix? -- Elaine Bradtke Data Wrangler VWML English Folk Dance and Song Society | http://www.efdss.org Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent's Park Road, London NW1 7AY Tel +44 (0) 20 7485 2206 ext 36 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Registered Company No. 297142 Charity Registered in England and Wales No. 305999 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture" --Elvis Costello (Musician magazine No. 60 (October 1983), p. 52)
