How do you handle "Claimed Returns"?
by Automation 30 Nov '11

30 Nov '11

Hello folks ~ We are migrating from SirsiDynix Horizon and are wondering how the concept of a "claimed return" is handled in Koha. I am RTFM [ 3.6 ] and do not see a reference to this. The fines show a $0.00 dollar amount and a 'block' is placed on the account in Horizon. How does your library handle a "claimed return" in Koha? Thank you! -- Chad Roseburg Automation Dept. New dates for GBSD: 2011-12-07 and 2012-01-06
by Magnus Enger 30 Nov '11

30 Nov '11

Yes, that's right, after some consultation on IRC I'm proposing two dates, to avoid the short notices that have been creeping up on us lately: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/2011-12-07_Global_bug_squashing_day http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/2012-01-06_Global_bug_squashing_day And yes, 2011-12-07 is a Wednesday (some of us have been talking about trying another dey than Friday) and yes it does fall on the same date as the next general IRC meeting. The devious plan of the bug wranglers is to cajole people into squashing bugs after the meeting! ;-) See you there! Magnus

The hold queue does a few things. 1. It has a cron job that runs periodically, regenerating the list. 2. The list is weighted based on a couple of system preferences. This becomes important in consortia where you might want one library to be preferred over another (to, say, keep a small library with a great collection from being utterly inundated with hold requests, for example) 3. The layout is a little nicer. Holds to Pull does the following: 1. Shows every hold across all libraries 2. Shows which libraries have copies of an item that can fill a hold (unlike the hold queue, which picks a specific library's item) 3. Is useful, but not in the same way as the hold queue. If it helps you frame it, in Sirsi the Hold Queue was similar functionality to the Pick List. If you accept the default cron job, the build_holds_queue cron will run every hour. NEKLS chooses (for various reasons) to run it only 3 times a day. We use the holds queue exclusively for managing our holds. I hope this helps.
