Patron card number auto-increment no longer working for alphanumeric entries
by Ann Weitzel 22 Feb '12

22 Feb '12

In an older Koha version (3.00.00.107) the alphanumeric entries would increment by one when a new patron record was added. For example, if the last patron entered had a card number of DLIS07313, then the new patron record would be filled in with DLIS0714. Now in Koha v3.06.02.003, the cardnumber is auto-filled only with pure integer numbers starting with 1, 2, 3, etc... ignoring the existing alphanumeric entries entirely. Was this a design change or is there something I can do to change the auto-increment pattern to ignore the pre-pended alpha chars and increment the numeric suffix, like it did in v3.0.0? Thanks in advance. [Discussion tech] Generalise the use Template Toolkit plugins
by Paul Poulain 21 Feb '12

21 Feb '12

I've started another discussion page: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Generalise_the_use_Template_Toolkit_plu… Chris_c recently has added a plugin to manage the display of dates into Koha (see http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Coding_Guidelines#Displaying_dates) that is very interesting. Do we want to generalise this mechanism ? When do we want to use it ? For example, the patch for bug http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=4078 could nicely use this mechanism let's start the discussion ! (reading the page and the possible solutions, you'll see I made 2, but am not happy with them. Probably need others ideas...) -- Paul POULAIN http://www.biblibre.com Expert en Logiciels Libres pour l'info-doc Tel : (33) 4 91 81 35 08

Re: [Koha] How to include 952$x in a report
by Stefano Bargioni 21 Feb '12

Paul, seems you are using two queries (";" delimits queries). If I'm not wrong, you can use SELECT items.biblionumber,items.barcode,items.dateaccessioned, ExtractValue(biblioitems.marcxml,'//datafield[@tag="952"]/subfield[@code="x"]') AS ITEM FROM biblioitems LEFT JOIN items ON (items.biblioitemnumber=biblioitems.biblioitemnumber) LEFT JOIN biblio ON (biblioitems.biblionumber=biblio.biblionumber) ORDER BY items.biblionumber ASC It works on my Koha 3.2.7 (Mysql 5.1.49). Also see @code="x", instead of @code>="x". Using ">=x" will extract subfields x,y,z... HTH. [snip first trial code] >http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/SQL_Reports_Library#Query_MARC Thanks Chris, I had tried something along those lines, and have now tried again. Started with deleting the: WHERE biblionumber=14), per mysql manual "The statement selects all rows if there is no WHERE clause", but still get error "can't use undefined value as an ARRAY reference" at guided_reports.pl line 618. After multiple trial/error changes to punctuation, etc, here's what I have, still non-functional: SELECT items.biblionumber,items.barcode,items.dateaccessioned FROM items; SELECT ExtractValue(marcxml,'//datafield[@tag="952"]/subfield[@code>="x"]') AS ITEM FROM biblioitems LEFT JOIN biblioitems on (items.biblioitemnumber=biblioitems.biblioitemnumber) LEFT JOIN biblio on (biblioitems.biblionumber=biblio.biblionumber) ORDER BY items.biblionumber asc Removing the "SELECT ExtractValue ..." and preceding semi-colon works fine, I'm just totally flummoxed on getting the 952$x part to function. Is another LEFT JOIN required? Could you possibly suggest the correct syntax? Many thanks. Paul

How to include 952$x in a report
by Paul 20 Feb '12

20 Feb '12

Help requested please from an expert in MySQL reports. The code below works perfectly, but I want to add 952$x (a text string for the condition of our holdings as in "good/fair" or "fine tpb") to the first line. If I add items.more_subfields_xml (which includes 952$x) I get a plethora of formatted XML that is unsuitable for copying straight into a spreadsheet. I have tried "mapping" 952$x to "condition" -- but have failed to create an "items.condition" -- is there another "name of field" that I can use? SELECT items.biblionumber,items.barcode,items.dateaccessioned FROM items LEFT JOIN biblioitems on (items.biblioitemnumber=biblioitems.biblioitemnumber) LEFT JOIN biblio on (biblioitems.biblionumber=biblio.biblionumber) ORDER BY items.biblionumber asc Many thanks - Paul

Colleagues, I have set up KOHA 3.6.1 running on Ubuntu 10.10, my only problem is that It can't send emails to patrons on registering or even overdues (everything is set for it). Kindly take me through on how to set it up (do you need to configure Ubuntu to be able to send mails or KOHA and how). EM Njoroge Think°Create°Share°Grow http://about.me/uhusiano

Improving permissions on lists (virtual shelves)
by Marcel de Rooy 20 Feb '12

20 Feb '12

Hi all, Following up on the discussion on list permissions in December, I updated the wiki page http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/List_permissions and submitted the first patches for report 7310 (http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7310) These first patches form the foundation for further changes but still stay very close to current functionality. One new point (not discussed before): While developing and refactoring some code, I removed the increasing lists information from session storage. This simplified the code, makes the sessions much smaller, ensures actual list information and did not make a big difference in performance (depending on factors as session count, number of lists, etc.; could even be faster). Next step in the development is now test and sign-off. Anyone willing is welcome to test! A detailed test plan is included on the report and on the wiki. Hope to hear from you! Marcel

introduction, also: renew all patrons?
by emilly mcleay 20 Feb '12

20 Feb '12

Hi! I'm at a small secondary college library in Melbourne, Australia and we just migrated to Koha (v3.6) over the summer holidays! It's been pretty exciting and has mostly gone very smoothly. (also, so glad the mailing list archives are easy to search, and that most of my questions were asked&answered already!) Now that I'm using it day to day, I've started to notice that a lot of the patrons expired in the past, if that makes sense, last year or otherwise before we actually installed Koha. I'm guessing it's to do with the fact that I set all the students to an enrolment period of 14 months, but their registration date copied over from the old system? I thought 14 months made sense, as I've divided patrons into year level categories, and 14 months gives me four weeks leeway to move all the patrons into their new year levels before getting four hundred notices that patrons are about to expire. Obviously it's an easy fix individually - just hit renew patron when I'm about to check out to them - but I was wondering if there was an easy way to renew all patrons. Thanks Emilly McLeay www.emillymcleay.com
