Secure staff client
by Tom Hanstra 20 Mar '12

20 Mar '12

I'm working to switch our Staff client to use SSL security. It looks as if I can do this by setting up Apache properly. However, there is a setting in the System Preferences which lists the Staff client URL, and that does not give us the opportunity to use a URL with "https". The information on that page is 'hardcoded' to "http". My question is: Where does that setting value come into play? What functionality is going to look at that value from the database and attempt to use it to contact the staff client? I can change the port number, but if it really uses the http rather than https protocol, then something will not properly connect to the staff client web interface. I don't know what all that might be. Has anyone run into problems with this? Can anyone tell me where this makes a difference? by ZUULU COOPER 20 Mar '12

20 Mar '12

Dear Group members, I am new to Koha and I am trying to set up my first system. I downloaded the patron.csv file and follow directions in Nicole Engard Youtube video except that I enter only last name and first names as a test. When I uploaded the file I received the error *invalid data for "category...".* Do I need to enter the data for all the fields before I upload the patron file? -- Zuulu Cooper Founder & Executive Director Libraries for Liberia Foundation 5919 Dakar Road West Suite 100 Westerville, OH 43081 614 270 3464 Skype: Shaka_zu00 website : http://librariesforliberiafoundation.com email: info(a)librariesforliberiafoundation.com *“Cause change and lead, accept change and survive, resist change and die.” * Ray Noorda - 1924-2006, technology pioneer, Novell Corporation CEO.

Hide Information from nonregistered patrons
by sheldon_tappin 19 Mar '12

19 Mar '12

Hi All, Is there any way how information can be hidden from patrons? We would like to add some additional subscription information to the bibliographic record. Only registered patrons should have access to the information, others should just see the normal records as is. Your response is greatly appreciated Kind Regards, Sheldon -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Hide-Information-from-nonregistered-patro… Sent from the Koha-general mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Next week is Global Bug Squashing Week!
by Magnus Enger 18 Mar '12

18 Mar '12

Dear Community, The deadlines for getting stuff into version 3.8 are drawing near: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Roadmap_to_3.8 As most of you are probably aware now, there will be a super cool hackfest in Marseille next week: http://drupal.biblibre.com/en/blog/entry/2012-hackfest-in-europe For those of us who can't be there in person, it's still possible to contribute to the fun, by joining the Global bug squashing week: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/2012-03-19_Global_bug_squashing_week As far as I can tell, the beginning of this week will be the last chance for having new features signed off with any hope of getting them into 3.8. And there are bugfixes and minor improvements to look after. Not sure how you can help? Jump on the IRC channel ( http://koha-community.org/get-involved/irc/ ) and we will help you get started! And with the sandboxes provided by BibLibre all you need in order to join the fun is a web browser! http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/2012-03-19_Global_bug_squashing_week See you there! Problem in Koha search through subject and keyword terms.
by iftikhar ahmed 16 Mar '12

16 Mar '12

Hello group members, I am facing problem in koha search through subject terms in librarian and user interfaces. For example, If i want to see books on 4th subject term by clicking on the hyperlink(i.e. wave propagation) than koha merge all previous terms with 'and'. Example mentioned in below line: http://--------/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=su:Engineering and su:Electrical engineering and su:Satellite communication and su:Wave propagation Koha has to make query term as below for proper searching: http://--------/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=su:Wave propagation Please help to resolve the issue, so that koha consider each term as individual entry rather than automatically combining all previous terms with 'and'. Regards, Iftikhar Ahmed.

Kohacon 12 - Invitation letter
by Olugbenga Adara 16 Mar '12

16 Mar '12

Hello, I think this should be directed to MJ Ray and KohaCon12 organizers. I have some users of Koha in Nigeria, showing interest in attending KohaCon12 in Edinburgh. However, they do require a letter of invitation, to present to their institution and the embassy. I guess the letter should just state the conference date(s), venue and the fact that it is a free conference but participants will have to sort out feeding/accommodation/visa by themselves. Is it possible for the conference organizers to do something about this? Regards. ISBN 13 to 10
by Paul 15 Mar '12

15 Mar '12

Would some kind soul with "corporate memory" please give me background on *why* the staff-admin page (basic search, search.pl) converts a 13 digit ISBN to the "old style" 10 digit format? As soon as you click on the title the details.pl page gives the 13 digits as entered in the biblio record (and for completeness the OPAC appears to only use the 13 digit format.) The reason for the query is that our cataloguers have pointed out that an "advanced search" for ISBN on the truncated, recalculated value, gives a "No results match your search for 'nb: 1551250934'" while the full 9781551250939 (i.e. with 978 at the beginning and correct check sum) for the same book finds it instantly. At some point in the past, someone must have considered this a "desirable feature" -- I'm intrigued as to the reasons. Thanks - Paul
