Re: [Koha] Koha 3.10 hosting in a shared webhosting environment
by Amir Seni 25 Mar '13

I currently have koha running on a "low end vps" 2 cpu cores with 512mb ram which is dynamic to 1gb. with an offloaded mysql hosted database. I currently pay 6.95US$ per month and maybe cheaper ones are available. Performance per dollar is acceptable. rebuilding an index with 45000 items takes about 15minutes. my local installation takes about 10mins. I think you should look up "low end vps box" and see what you can find. Amir

590, 946 Fields Koha to MARC Mapping
by David Lyons 25 Mar '13

25 Mar '13

Hi, Our MARC records place local note data in both the 590 and 946 fields, but I'm having trouble figuring out what these two fields should map to in Koha. Right now I've got 946 mapping to "notes" under "biblioitems", but that leaves me with no idea where to map 590. As far I can tell, I can't change any of the "items" fields without the framework test getting irritated, and even then none of those are wholly appropriate. Anyone dealt with a similar dilemma? Person contact in KOHA
by Hager Braham 25 Mar '13

25 Mar '13

Hi, I am looking to have a contact person I can ask some questions about KOHA. I checked many discussions lists and it is difficult to find a person who is in charge. It seems KOHA's community can help which is very confusing and I have no idea where to start. Thank you, Hager

Koha 3.12 beta released (and you can help!)
by Jared Camins-Esakov 25 Mar '13

25 Mar '13

About an hour ago I cut a beta for Koha 3.12.0. The tarball is available at http://download.koha-community.org/koha-3.12.00-beta1.tar.gz and the release notes at http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=koha.git;a=blob_plain;f=misc/releas… Packages will follow in the squeeze-dev repository sometime at the beginning of the week. As a reminder, Koha 3.12 is in feature freeze so any features that are not in the beta will not be in Koha 3.12, and I will not respond to any complaints about features that didn't make the cut-off other than forwarding them to the Koha mailing lists. So, what now? Now, we seek out and destroy bugs! If you have a spare testing server, take the beta for a spin, and try to break it. "Sure," you say, "I know that I can do that. But what can I help with that deserved an exclamation mark in the subject line?" I'm glad you asked. Here is a list of some things that need to be done before May 22: * Koha has to be translated. I will be asking the Translation Manager to pull the latest strings into Pootle so that the translation teams can get a head start (and if you know any language other than American English, you can help translate! Head on over to http://translate.koha-community.org/ and get started) * Koha's documentation has to be updated. We have a Documentation Manager, but if you have any ideas about how to document a new feature, or an old feature, or clarify instructions, you, too, can write documentation. Take a look at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Editing_the_Koha_Manual if you want to work on this. * Koha's installation instructions need to be updated. Some of the installation instructions that are included in the tarball were last updated (for all practical purposes) in 2010. That's a long time ago in computer time. If you have some thoughts on how the various INSTALL.* files in the tarball might be updated to be more clear, open up a text editor and send in your corrections (preferably as a patch, but if you have suggestions and are not comfortable with git, an e-mail to koha-devel will work too). * Enhancement bugs need to be reclassified. During the 3.12 release cycle we added a new category of bug report: "New feature." However, a lot of the new features that are going into 3.12 are still listed as "enhancements" in Bugzilla, which means the automated release notes generator doesn't pick them up properly. Any time the RM spends fixing that is time the RM does not spend fixing problems with Koha. This is is a task that anyone can do. All it takes is a bit of critical thinking and an account on Bugzilla: http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/ * Open bug reports need to be (re)confirmed. We have scads of bug reports in Bugzilla, and many of them probably report bugs that have been fixed for weeks, months, or years. If we can get all the bugs that are already fixed closed, it'll be easier to focus on the bugs that still exist. Head on over to Bugzilla, choose some old bugs, and start testing! * Bugs need to be fixed. This goes hand-in-hand with the testing that you've all heard me to talk to death, but once a bug has been found, it has to be fixed. If you know how to fix a bug, please do! * Bug fixes need to be tested. There are many bugfixes already on bugzilla, and there will be many more being written in the next two months. After a patch has been written, it has to be tested by at least one third party (i.e. not the developer and not me) in order to move through the QA process to inclusion in Koha. Even if you don't have a spare server, you can test patches in the sandboxes hosted by BibLibre: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Sandboxes * Volunteers must be found, recruited, and/or made for 3.14. If you want to be involved in 3.14, there's still time to volunteer for an open position. Just put your name on the ballot at http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Roles_for_3.14 Regards, Jared Camins-Esakov -- Jared Camins-Esakov Bibliographer, C & P Bibliography Services, LLC (phone) +1 (917) 727-3445 (e-mail) jcamins(a)cpbibliography.com (web) http://www.cpbibliography.com/

Koha 3 on Shared Server
by Dwayne Collins 24 Mar '13

24 Mar '13

Hello Folks, I'm currently running Koha 2.2.9 on a clunky old server in a backroom right now and I'm wanting to upgrade to Koha 3 and migrate to a shared server environment where we currently have our website hosted (it's Bluehost.com) Does anyone have experience in this area and/or know of a guide to setting up Koha on a shared server (or even better, specifically on Bluehost?) Everything I've been able to find so far only seems to deal with a standard install. Cheers, Dwayne Collins

Koha 3.2, problem with Holds
by Muhammad Abdullah 23 Mar '13

23 Mar '13

Greetings Sir/Madam, We're using Koha 3.2 and are having a problem with Holds. Patrons cannot place a hold on checked out item, these errors come up instead: Cannot Place Hold Too Many Holds: Patron's name has too many holds. No copies are available to be placed on hold We've already created matching specific Circulation Rules for our library, but it seems that Koha overlook them. The errors completely disappear when we created Circulation Rules for the "Default" library, choosing Patron Category and Item Type as "Default". If we choose anything other than "Default" for both Category and Type, it says "Too Many Holds: Patron's name has too many holds." when patron tried to place a hold, but they can still peform said task successfully. Does anyone know why Koha doesn't use the Circulation Rules we've created for our library, but instead use the rules in "Default" and not very well at that? Is this a bug or implementation shortcoming?

Koha 3.12 feature freeze
by Jared Camins-Esakov 23 Mar '13

23 Mar '13

Hello. It is 11:54pm on March 22 in Lima, Peru, and Koha 3.12 is now in feature freeze. This means that further enhancements and new features will not be considered for inclusion in Koha 3.12. We have the next two months to focus on fixing bugs and making Koha 3.12 the most stable Koha release ever. Sometime in the next few days I will be releasing a beta of Koha 3.12. I hope everyone will take some time to test it and shake out all the bugs before the final release on May 22. The next date to be aware of is May 1. On May 1 the master branch enters string freeze and no patches that make changes to the text of any part of the Koha web interface (including documentation patches!) will be accepted so that the translators have plenty of time to get 3.12 translated. Regards, Jared P.S. Any enhancement or feature patch that did not apply or that I marked failed QA today is not eligible for 3.12. P.P.S. There is one feature (bug 5343) that I pushed due to librarian and developer interest even though it was not 100% ready. I will revert it if unit tests are not provided by March 29, as noted on the bug. -- Jared Camins-Esakov Bibliographer, C & P Bibliography Services, LLC (phone) +1 (917) 727-3445 (e-mail) jcamins(a)cpbibliography.com (web) http://www.cpbibliography.com/
