Koha intranet authentication logging
by Joel Ewy 06 May '14

06 May '14

Where are Koha admin (intranet) authentication failures logged in version 3.14? I assume that every time I fail to log in to localhost:8080 that should be logged somewhere. Knowing where might set me on the trail of why this is now failing. Thanks for any help any of you can offer in understanding how this is supposed to work. JCE

by Arun Kumar 06 May '14

06 May '14

Hello, We are working on to integrate a particular function in Koha Acquisition module for Suggestion Management..... In our Institute we have Committee Members that approve the suggested item and we achieve this by mailing them the Suggested details by the user. this is done with a single click in our old library software. we want KOHA to have similar feature hence the effort. We have pointed out a peculiar function working in KOHA i.e when the status is changed in suggestion management a mail from Notices & slips with similar status id is sent to the person who has suggested the document . we could use this function for sending the mails for approval from the Committee members How do we achieve this milestone is there any way to do it . Pointers for any leads will be appreciated Regards Arunkumar National Institute of Oceanography Dona-Paula, Goa, India

Technically yes, but in this case, no. Packages are maintained for 3.14 and 3.12, so depending what apt source entry you used, you'll get upgraded to one of them. -- Robin Sheat Catalyst IT Ltd. ✆ +64 4 803 2204 GPG: 5FA7 4B49 1E4D CAA4 4C38 8505 77F5 B724 F871 3BDF

Multiple 999$c biblionumbers Koha 3.14
by Elaine Bradtke 05 May '14

05 May '14

- Question: What is the best way to find out if we have records with multiple 999c fields? I need to find out if the record below is an anomaly, or if there is a bigger problem. I've reported a similar problem before, and commented on bug 6657 http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=6657 . I now have a record that seems to have lost its item records, acquired an item record from another record (which itself has vanished) and has a scary number of 999$c fields. To add to the confusion, the one item that is attached to the record was uploaded *before* the biblio record was created (and its parent record is gone without a trace). See record below. Some of this could be human error (merging two records that should not have been merged, or typing in the wrong number - we don't actually have barcodes). But the 999c is machine generated, and that's the worrying thing. Do you see anything strange about this record in addition to the 999c fields? How did that strange $d end up in the midst of them? Any ideas? =LDR 02138nam a22003737a 4500 =001 201211211518.nw =003 UkLoVW =005 20140319230939.0 =008 121120s1922\\\\enkg\\\g\\\\\\000\0\eng\d =040 \\$aUkLoVW$beng$cUkLoVW =099 \\$aQS 40 =100 \\$9822$aSharp, Cecil J. =245 10$aCountry dance tunes, set Xl :$bfrom The English dancing master (1650-1728) /$cArranged by Cecil J. Misleading item status between OPAC search result and full item details
by Iming Chan 05 May '14

05 May '14

Dear all, I'm try to resolve a misleading/contradicting status for new items that are currently being processed by our "Technical Services" team. Such items have been assigned "PROC" (in processing) status under "Shelf Location". This is fine and shows correctly on the OPAC full item detail screen under "Holdings". However, on the OPAC search result list, they are shown as "Available for loan at ...", after Availability. This causes confusion whether such item is actually ready for loan or still being processed! Now I have been trying to a few options, but none seems to have worked on the search result list: 1. To show description for the "PROC" status ("In processing" in our case) instead of "Available for loan at ..."; or 2. Totally remove/hide "Availability" detail. I haven even tried to assign these items to our Technical Services branch under "Current Location" (while assigned to correct branch for "Permanent Location"). However, availability message still use permanent instead of current location regardless. P.S. Unfortunately "check-in" function would not change status for "Not for loan" (it shouldn't be anyway), otherwise, I would have assigned a status under "Not for loan" instead of "Shelf location" instead to solve this confusion! Looking forward to your comments or suggestions. Upgrade Problems
by Joel Ewy 05 May '14

05 May '14

Greetings, I administer a Koha server for a small church library (and am going to set it up for another), and I'm only called in to work on it a few times a year, when there are problems. It was first set up in 2007 and has been upgraded a couple times since then. Each time has been a struggle to get it back online. I'd like a little better understanding of how all the pieces work together so I can get it working again. Until last week the server was running under Ubuntu 10.04. After replacing a faulty video card, I decided to run the operating system updates that had not been installed since my last visit. Somehow this broke Koha, so I took the opportunity to upgrade to 12.04, having seen on the other machine that I'm working on that the Koha Debian packages aren't happy with 14.04 yet. The OS upgrade went well, but Koha was still having problems. Specifically, no search results were being returned, and when I tried to update the database and rebuild the Zebra index I was getting errors that wouldn't let me proceed. I followed the instructions at: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Moving_an_installation_from_a_regular_i… and imported a backup of the database into a new instance. I can now run the programs to update the database schema and rebuild the Zebra index, but only using sudo, which I take it mangles the permissions for Zebra. Also, now I can't log into the administrative intranet. I copied the username and password from my old koha-conf.xml to the new one, and that had been working until I created a new instance. The username and password I had used before don't work now. So here are my questions: 1. It's unclear to me what user account I'm supposed to be using to rebuild the Zebra index. I have an Ubuntu user called 'koha' that was inherited from 10.04, and when I created a new instance, another user 'bcmckoha14' was created. Am I supposed to be running the Zebra index rebuild as one of those users? I can 'su' to these accounts, but when I try to rebuild the index, it prompts me for a sudo password and then complains that those user accounts are not sudoers (which of course they shouldn't be.) So just how exactly is this supposed to be accomplished? 2. Where are Koha admin authentication failures logged? I assume that every time I fail to log in to localhost:8080 that should be logged somewhere. Knowing where might set me on the trail of why this is now failing. 3. I have tried reinstalling Zebra, and it grabs a password I had created for the kohaadmin account from somewhere and inserts it into its own otherwise fresh config files. What are the Zebra username and password supposed to authenticate against? A user account on the system? A MySQL user? Where and when is this created, and how can I fix it now that it's goofed up? Any help would be much appreciated. Joel Ewy
