2.2.9 to 3.0.1

I have installed a koha 3.0.1 that can handle utf8 and it looks all OK. Then I have a dump from a 2.2.9 (in utf8). My idea is to load the 2.2.9 dump as a new database, say testkoha, in MySQL and copy to koha version 3 with some INSERT SELECT commands as shown below. My question is, which tables do I need to copy? I have recognized biblio, biblioitems, items, but there are probably more. Is this approach good or is there anything easier I can do??? I've not tried the 22_to_30 way, but I don't think that is applicable in my scenario. Example of my idea... mysql> INSERT INTO koha.biblio (biblionumber, frameworkcode, author, title, unititle, notes, serial, seriestitle, copyrightdate, timestamp, datecreated, abstract) SELECT biblionumber, frameworkcode, author, title, unititle, notes, serial, seriestitle, copyrightdate, timestamp, datecreated, abstract FROM kohatest.biblio;

Laura, Take a look at this page in the doc: https://sites.google.com/a/liblime.com/koha-manual/Home/Table-of-Contents/C… Koha stores the item info in the 952 field. It looks like your item info is in the 999 field. You need to work out a mapping to move the info from the subfields in the 999 field to the right subfield in the 952 (or other) field. You can use MarcEdit to do this, I think by making individual passes at the file to move the subfield info one at a time. Or you can generate a script from MarcEdit and modify it. Also take a look at the Koha to Marc mapping in the Administration page of the Staff client. This is where the links between the two are defined. If your item types are in 245$h, Koha won't be looking there. The default is to look in 942$c for the item type, and at the item level to look in the 952$y field. In the koha to marc mapping there are three screens, biblio, biblioitems and items that you access with the drop down menu. Be careful changing these links. If you can use MarcEdit to modify your incoming file to match that is probably best. You might try making a file with just one or two records, manually editing them and then use MarkMaker to make a file. Import that and see how it looks. Tweak your mapping until it is right then use MarcEdit to move the subfields around in mass. I have the title listed under 245$a and the media type under 245$h. Here is a sample of the items we carry in our library. Diacritics

Hi, I just joined the list. I have little technical understanding of the back end of Koha, but maybe someone knows an answer to this problem: When searching our catalog ( http://mlon.masscat.org/ ), Koha doesn’t ignore diacritics. So, for example, au,phr: bartok, bela won’t get any hits because the author’s name has diacritics: Bartók, Béla. Pasting in the search term with the accents, I get 231 hits. Names like Fauré, Gabriel, Kœchlin, Charles and Dvořák, Antonín are other examples (we are a music school and our library’s holdings includes lots of music scores and sound recordings with names and titles in German, French, Czech, etc.) This is very confusing to our patrons—they can’t find things they are looking for. Ah, OK. I have multiple databases and have turned on the xsl option on one of them and used it to customize how the clickable links appear, as that database is cataloging on-line resources. I ran into trouble turning on xsl for the other databases, as the "prog" directory is hard coded in many places in the code, and copying the file structure over to a new directory and pointing a second database at that structure didn't work, too many things still fetched from "prog". Because of that I left the xsl option off on the main catalog DB. So is the answer to my question that the customization for this occurs at the Perl template level? Or is there some other place in the Admin that I can add other fields to the Title line in the Normal View? Intranet & Opac on other PCs

Hello All, We are using Koha 3.0 in Ubuntu 8 for a collection with many items in foreign languages. It is our understanding that Koha 3.0 should be able to handle Unicode. However, we have problems to insert any some special characters in non-English. Basically, the database will chop anything followed a special character. If the string we try to insert is "Den økonomiske", only "Den " gets in. If a special character starts a string, it ends up with an empty string in the database. Here is our Koha database configuration as created: +--------------------------+----------------------------+ | Variable_name | Value | +--------------------------+----------------------------+ | character_set_client | utf8 | | character_set_connection | utf8 | | character_set_database | utf8 | | character_set_filesystem | binary | | character_set_results | utf8 | | character_set_server | utf8 | | character_set_system | utf8 | | character_sets_dir | /usr/share/mysql/charsets/ | +--------------------------+----------------------------+ There is a twist that we can't understand.
