Re: [Koha] Finding a patron name in lookup

Hi Jane and all. It would be really great if you folks could make it more of a priority to list your projects on bugzilla so other projects don't conflict with work PTFS is already engaged in. I think my consortium might be engaging another vendor to do work very similar to this. Some coordination beforehand would have been nice. It's just been a question of staff time and rapidly moving code/specs. For the patron searching enhancement, the screen looks like this: The pulldown in the top search box has Standard (covers name and barcode), borrower number, email, and phone. If the staff person is familiar with the SQL, he/she can also do a direct query in the bottom box. You'll note a Borrower Cart in the screenshot - a separate enhancement we're working on has some batch edit/delete capabilities for records that are selected and added to the cart. That code is also still in test. Jane Wagner Library Systems Analyst PTFS Inc. That sounds great Jane. Can you create an enhancement bug for it so that others can see it's being worked on? Will it be just a change to the way the search works now, or will it include other methods of searching patrons, like an advanced search screen? KOHA 3.0 at Portuguese Administration
by rafael.antonio＠sapo.pt 31 Jul '09

31 Jul '09

Dear list members, I have the pleasure to announce that we have suceed installing the first 3.0 KOHA version in Portugal at Prospective Planning and Internacional Affaires Department an agency of Environment Ministry. After several years with another system (SIRTEX from Software AG running on ADABAS) last year they participate on a training workshop about Free Software for Libraries and decided to convert near 35.000 biliographic records ad more than 25.000 authority records to KOHA, using UNIMARC flavour. Meanwhile they converted manually all subscriptions issues with the help of some scripts to import items which allowed to do it quickly. This is the second KOHA instalation, after Informatics Institute, which give make us to believe that more departments will join. If you want to acess please go to http://koha.dpp.pt and select english language. Regards, Rafael António

Stage MARC Records for Import vs. bulkmarcimport
by Sébastien Hinderer 31 Jul '09

31 Jul '09

Dear all, I'm trying to understand the differences between bulkmarcimport (BMI) and stage MARC records for import (SMRI). As I understand it: 1. BMI is done through command-line whereas SMRI uses the web interface. 2. With BMI the records get catalogued directly so the reservoir step is skipped, contrary to what happens with SMRI. So my questions are: 1. Is this understanding correct ? 2. What's the intended use of the two functionality ? Being new to the library science field, I suspect that there is perhaps something more to the storry than what I know. Actually, I think I understand the idea behind BMI (catalogue a bunch of records at once), but I don't understand what there is behind SMRI. 3. Once I understand things better, I'm willing to write something in the manual or in the wiki to explain what I have understood and which could then be improved by others. old that be relevant, and, where would that fit best ? Thanks much in advance for your help, Sébastien.

marc record matching rules, not working
by Scott 31 Jul '09

31 Jul '09

Hi, I am trying to import 1 marc only record, and then import a list of items for that marc record. I have the default matching rules that come with koha and so I am trying to match the isbn 020a tag. here is a the marc record only. =LDR 00000nam 2200000Ia 45e0 =008 090731s9999\\\\xx\\\\\\\\\\\\000\0\und\d =020 \\$a9780439533263 =100 1\$a"Blevins, Wiley" =245 04$aA Hat =650 0\$aGeneral =952 \\$oA$p80006$yL and here is the sample of one of the item records. =LDR 00000nam 2200000Ia 45e0 =008 090731s9999\\\\xx\\\\\\\\\\\\000\0\und\d =020 \\$a9780439533263 =100 1\$a"Blevins, Wiley" =245 04$aA Hat =952 \\$oA$p80006$yL$v5 there probably shouldnt be a barcode in the record only, since i see that now that im writing this, but how i do this is I first stage the marc record and just have it replace any matching and to not add any items. I then import it, and rebuild_zebra just to be sure its in there correctly. I then stage the item record and tell it to ignore adding records but add all items. I then upload it and it ignores all the items. Even though the 020$a is the same as the marc record. Shouldnt the items be adding to the record? Is what I am doing even possible? I basically just want to add a marc record, then add a bunch of items to it. Instead of having a bunch of the same items with different records. Thanks for all the help. -Scott

DBD driver has not implemented the AutoCommit attribute
by Marc Nürnberger 31 Jul '09

31 Jul '09

Dear all, I am struggling hard with this DBD driver problem, ever since I did one reboot on an lenny & perl 5.10 & Koha 3.00.02-final. Make test always fails with the below message. On a test system the same combination is running just fine. So I thought it's just a matter of the right Perl modules, DBI and DBD::mysql. But no matter if I use the latest packages, or the working combination of DBI 1.605 and DBD:mysql 4.007 from the test system, I cannot get past this one... Any suggestions, what could be a next step in troubleshooting? Thanks a lot. patron accounts in a union catalogue
by Nelson Fredsell -CCE 31 Jul '09

31 Jul '09

Howdy all, We've got some patrons who are members of multiple libraries in our Koha installation. Each library is a separate organization and therefore has different rules about overdue fines, checkout period, annual subscription fee, and so on. For this reason I suppose this means that a patron must have a separate OPAC login and patron account for each library. If s/he want to see online what books are checked out from two libraries, s/he will have to log in twice under two separate accounts, no? Thanks very much, Nelson implementing a union catalogue in Cape Town, South Africa

How to make custom framework the default?
by Melisa Canales 30 Jul '09

30 Jul '09

Hello all, I sent a message to the list 2 days ago, but it didn't appear to make it through. My apologies if you get this twice. I work at a university center with a collection consisting of mostly videos, but we do have some texts and other things as well. I believe I have gotten Koha 3 into a functioning state and have gotten the data into decent shape as well. Our staff has several questions beyond basic functionality. 1. How can I make our custom framework be the default selected framework when adding a new record? 2. Is is possible to hide items on the OPAC based on itemtype? Do I have to modify each biblio one by one via the OpacSuppression feature to accomplish this? 3. Is there a way to limit the number of characters shown in the biblio summary when doing a search in the staff side? For example, if a biblio has a really long summary, we only want to show the first 3 or 4 lines. We are using Koha version 3.00.01.005, MARC21, and zebra. Thanks, Melisa Canales
