Greetings, I'm the assistant director of a theological library in the upper Midwest of the U.S. (Minnesota, to be precise). We are part of a consortium of seminary libraries, all of which are very interested in learning more about open source library systems, particularly as implemented in an academic setting. Every fall we host a half-day workshop for the library staffs of our five consortium institutions and we are hoping to have a presentation on open source library systems. I you -- or someone you know - has the experience, expertise and lives/works in the Minnesota/Wisconsin region, please contact me off-list. Thanks, Dale Dobias Assistant Director of the Library Spencer Library United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities New Brighton, MN 55112 USA ddobias(a)unitedseminary.edu<mailto:ddobias@unitedseminary.edu>

koha 3.00.02 serials issue
by Sunita Barve 18 Jun '10

18 Jun '10

Dear all, While running koha 3.00.02 very often when we try to add new serial subscription and click on search for a vendor button nothing happens. Even if search for a biblio/create biblio button is pressed nothing happens. We have also realised that it works on some machines and it does not work on some machines. When subscription period is placed and saved software randomly creates some year and we have to edit year again. Has this problem been noticed by anyone? Also in 3.00.02 if we try to set up library staff permissions for acquisitions they dont work. If we select catalogue and acquisition option for one user it will only show catalogue and lists links but no acquisitions link is shown for that library staff. reg, -- Sunita Barve, Ph. D. Active Directory and Koha
by Mesfin Teshome 18 Jun '10

18 Jun '10

Hi all, I thought this might help somebody. After struggling a for quite a while to integrate Active Directory authentication with KOHA i.e. changing lines 103 to 107 from Auth_with_ldap.pm to changing koha-conf.xml with suggested changes from this list and other google results, I found changing the 'userid' to 'uid' mapping in koha-conf.xml to 'userid' to 'samAccountName' along with the changes for Auth_with_ldap.pm solved my problem I wish I knew this beforehand. We are in a Windows 2003 native network environment. Regards

circulation box -- impossible class?
by Kate Etheredge 17 Jun '10

17 Jun '10

Hi all, I am having a circulation issue -- when attempting to check out to a patron, a small yellow box has appeared above the patron name (similar to the box where circ staff could choose to allow checkouts when the patron has overdue items). The yellow box in question, however, is only one line high and has no text or ability to choose anything. From the source code, I believe it is this: <div class="yui-g first"> <div id="circ_impossible" class="dialog alert"> <ul> </ul> </div></div> Koha has done this for at least three patrons in both Firefox and Explorer. It might be tied to overdues or fines -- it has happened when the patron owed fines or had overdues but it has also happened after the fines have been paid. In order to check out to these patrons, I have to delete their records and re-add them. I am a Koha express site so have no control over Koha versions or anything other than system preferences. I appreciate any help and will be glad to report this as a bug, if it isn't just something that I messed up somehow. Thanks!

And can you check your koha2marc mappings and see what field (if any) 260c is linked to? Chris

We don't have but 5 months of data from cataloging- so the Wizard report is no good. Need a Koha report to extract each branch's holding by date of publication. Susan O'Neal Middletown Township Public Library 55 New Monmouth Road Middletown, NJ 07748 732. 671.3703 (Phone) 732.671.5839 (Fax)

Original MARC cataloging with Koha
by deavorj＠comcast.net 16 Jun '10

16 Jun '10

We are just starting data entry this summer, and I am playing with Koha trying to learn how to use it. For most books I am hoping to simply download the MARC records. However, I am finding a few books that I think I will have to catalog myself. It is with these that I am having problems. As I went through the MARC tags in Koha I found some had blocks where I could enter data without any problems. However, there are two tags where I really need to enter data and I can't figure out how to do it. Under tag 082 I want to enter the Dewey Decimal Number. My problem is I don't see any box to enter this data. I can click the + and add another tag or the - and take the extra tag away. Yet, I can't enter the call number. My other frustration is I want to assign it a subject heading under the 650 tag. I run into the same problem. There is no data entry box and just + and - signs for the tag. I just want to enter a subject head. Do you all have any suggestions for me? I have noticed some of you mentioning Marc Reader. Would this program be helpful for me? Thanks in advance, Janet Deavor St. John Catholic School North Charleston, SC USA
