Phone notification system for Koha
I found the following on a FAQ page for Koha. Does anyone know if this is now available? I notice it says code would be written for it in 2009. Thanks in advance. --Jim Maroon ====================================================== Is there a phone notification service for Koha? The functionality must include ability to phone customers with a computerized voice message to let them know of items on hold ready to be picked up, and of items overdue. It also has the capacity to receive calls and renew items according to our policies. This is more than the average drs office that calls with appointment reminders- must be able to link approx 250,000 item and 40,000 borrower records. The FOSS PBX system Asterisk (http://www.asterisk.org/) could do what you propose, but would need additional programming for the Asterisk<->Kohainterface. This code is planned to be written in the summer of 2009. -- ================================================== "The man, who, by his own and his family's labour, can provide a sufficiency of food and raiment and a comfortable dwelling place, is not a poor man."--William Cobbett, *Cottage Economy*, 1826. http://www.sufficientself.com

Where did you find the FAQ? If not on a *.koha-community.org site, like wiki.koha-community.org or www.koha-community.org then the information is most likely out of date and wrong As far as I know this was never submitted as a patch for Koha. Chris
Thanks in advance.

koha.org is old and wrong, and no longer maintained or maintainable by the community. Please don't refer to it for any information about Koha. Chris
Okay, thanks. So I take it there is no way to make a phone notification system work with Koha? --Jim Maroon On Thu, Feb 24, 2011 at 6:21 PM, Chris Cormack <chris@bigballofwax.co.nz>wrote:

Jim afaik, no-one has developed PABX integration with Koha, yet. however... it should be completely possible to make a phone notification system (like asterisk) work with Koha cheers, Mason -- KohaAloha, NZ

More than possible, it wouldn't be too too difficult even. It's more deciding the mechanism and triggers for what you'd want to have it do when. Asterisk has hooks which make it easy (and fun) to interface with. -reed

aaaah, there you go Jim... some advice from someone who knows what they are talking about ;)
Hello, If the Phone Notification system you are thinking of is being used to call patrons automatically and announce Hold available, Overdue, and fines then there is a solution called TM3 from TalkingTech. We've been using them with Symphony and they've indicated they're compatible with Koha will work directly with us when we migrate to Koha. Here is their contact info: Talkingtech 1000 Heritage Center Circle Round Rock, TX 78664 Office 800-631-0315 Cell 512-487-4992 Fax 512-238-3001 Email seany@talkingtech.com Best Wishes, William Carlin Systems Washoe County Library System 775 327-8348 Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic ~ Arthur C. http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=4246 Looks like the work was done to create reports that go to TalkingTech and back -- so not direct telephony integration but useful to TalkTech customers presumably. Sponsored by Middletown Township Public Library, Middletown, NJ, USA but never submitted to core Koha in a usable form (is in the Harley pile). Maybe PTFS or someone from TalkingTech or the sponsoring library would want to take it that extra step? -reed On Mon, Feb 28, 2011 at 10:21 AM, Carlin, William <WCarlin@washoecounty.us> wrote:

Back in the olden days (2000) when Koha first went live. Horowhenua Library Trust used talkingtech, they did exactly that dumped a file and sent it to talkingtech to phone. Worked fine Chris
Ah. Looks like it can be done, then. I'll check with Talking Tech once we get up and running, if I can convince the Powers That Be that Koha is the way to go, as I think it is. Thanks much! --Jim Maroon On Sun, Feb 27, 2011 at 3:58 PM, Chris Cormack <chris@bigballofwax.co.nz>wrote:
