Displaying book covers or thumbnails on search result
Hi all, I have installed Koha 3.00.03 on Debian-Lenny. I have imported our Library records using 'bulkmarcimport.pl' and it is working fine. We want to display thumbnails of books on the search result. We've kept the hyperlink of the book cover on the subfield $a of tag 856. I searched for the solution on Google but I couldn't find the relevant information. I found the solution for Koha 2.x but that was just for moving the book cover to the left-hand side <http://www.myacpl.org/koha/?p=196> of the search result. I have seen libraries displaying the book covers on their search resuly. So, I was wondering how to display the thumbnails of the book covers on the search result of OPAC. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. -- Dibyendra Hyoju Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya Patan Dhoka, Lalitpur Nepal
I don't know how the hyperlink is related. Most book jackets are retrieved from external sources using ISBN. In 2.2, I think ISBN is the only key for jacket images. However, the Amazon code in 2.2 may not be current enough to use the Amazon API anymore. Amazon changed their terms of service and technical dimensions of how the API is used. In 3.0, the Amazon integration is current and working, and other identifiers might also be used, but ISBN is still the most common. --Joe Atzberger 2009/8/20 Dibyendra Hyoju <dibyendra@gmail.com>

Thanks for your response, Joe! So, do we have to modify the template to display the book covers in the search result for the book records which have ISBN? I found similar solution while searching in Google. Would you like to suggest any good ways? Looking forward to hearing from you. You would have to modify the template and the script logic also. I'm not sure whether 856$a also would have other uses, in which case you would need additional data and mapping (or at least a syspref) to turn this feature on and off. The number of image sources makes it difficult to manage adding on new content sources, since you have to worry about the interaction with the other possible images. It would be easy to hack it in, but much harder to do "right". --Joe On Fri, Aug 21, 2009 at 11:57 AM, Dibyendra Hyoju <dibyendra@gmail.com>wrote:

Several people have been asking for this - the ability to link to their own cover images - maybe this is something developers should get together on and write the code for - if you have that skill that would be a great enhancement to add to Koha.
