You would have to modify the template and the script logic also. I'm not sure whether 856$a also would have other uses, in which case you would need additional data and mapping (or at least a syspref) to turn this feature on and off. The number of image sources makes it difficult to manage adding on new content sources, since you have to worry about the interaction with the other possible images. It would be easy to hack it in, but much harder to do "right". --Joe On Fri, Aug 21, 2009 at 11:57 AM, Dibyendra Hyoju <dibyendra@gmail.com>wrote:
Thanks for your response, Joe! So, do we have to modify the template to display the book covers in the search result for the book records which have ISBN? I found similar solution while searching in Google. Would you like to suggest any good ways?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanking you, Dibyendra

I don't think any mechanism for an arbitrary jacket image target exists, so you would have to build one. --joe

Hi Nicole,
Thank you very much for your prompt response. Our library "Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya" archives Nepali library materials. We were suggested to use the tag 866$a to store the electronic resource as a hyperlink, and we have copied the images of cover pages to our wesbite.
Our record looks like follows in which a hyperlink is placed on the 856$a, linking to the book cover:
=LDR 01343nam 2200265Ka 4500 =008 20090808s1986\\\\ii\\\\\\\\\\\\000\f\nep\d =020 \\$6880-01$cMūlya: 15.00 =100 1\$6880-02$aKshatrī, Līlabahādura. =245 10$6880-03$aBrahmaputrakā chheu chhāu /$cLekhak Līlabahādura Kshatrī. =260 \\$6880-04$aDārjīliṅa :$bŚyāma Prakāśana,$c[2043] 1986$e(Banāras :$fPrakāśa Prinṭiṅa Presa) =300 \\$6880-05$a173 p. ;$c22 cm. =500 \\$aCopyright holder: the author. =500 \\$aNovel. =546 \\$aIn Nepali. =856 40$ahttp://madanpuraskar.org/images/bookcovers/bhramaputra_11040.jpg =852 \\$aMadan Puraskar Pustakalaya$ePatandhoka, Lalitpur, Nepal$xAccession no.: 11040
As we cannot find the book jackets of Nepali books on Amazon, Librarything, Google books, etc., we're scanning the book jackets ourselves and putting them on our own website. If images cannot be imported from the MARC record, It would be great if we could display the book cover from our records in some other mechanism.
Also, If ISBN is mandatory for loading book jackets, there will be a problem for most of our old Nepali records which don't have ISBN. I am hopeful that there might be some other alternative way to load book covers for the records lacking ISBN.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanking you, Dibyendra

These book jackets are coming from Amazon, Google Books, Syndetics, Baker & Taylor, LibraryThing or Babeltheque. You can choose which service you want to use by going to your system preferences at More > Administration > Global System Preferences > Enhanced Content. At this time there is no way to import images from the MARC record.

Hi all,
I have installed Koha 3.00.03 on Debian-Lenny. I have imported our
Library
records using 'bulkmarcimport.pl' and it is working fine. We want to display thumbnails of books on the search result. We've kept the hyperlink of the book cover on the subfield $a of tag 856. I searched for the solution on Google but I couldn't find the relevant information. I found the solution for Koha 2.x but that was just for moving the book cover to the left-hand side of the search result. I have seen libraries displaying the book covers on their search resuly. So, I was wondering how to display the thumbnails of the book covers on the search result of OPAC. Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.
