Shelf browsing not showing up after upgrade to koha_3_02_03
Hi, We do not have call numbers assigned to our books, however shelf browsing was working for us pre koha_3_02_03. That is, only the "Browse Shelf" link would show up on the OPAC detail page in the callnumber column. We have only recently noticed that the "Browse Shelf" link is no longer showing up. We suspect the change in bahaviour happened when we upgraded. We have the "OPACShelfBrowser" global system preference set to "on". Here is a sample of our 952 fields: 952 _40 _xvg/vg _err _00 _912232 _bOPIACS _10 _d2011-02-24 _zHow admirals, scientists and politicians impeded the development of high technology in Canada's wartime navy. The reasons were diverse - the limited pre-war infrastructure, poor leadership, nav al conservatism, inadequate international technical liaison and the Admiralty's refusal to give reasonable assistance to the Canadian effort. _8navy_RCN _71 _cbox_rr_fl3 _g20.00 _yBK _aOPIACS As I recall setting 952$a, $b, and $c seemed to get the shelf browsing working (when it was working) even without call numbers. Sorry I don't have the answer to your specific question, but: Why don't you use call numbers? When shelf browsing was working, what determined the items' order on the shelf? What do *you* use to specify the physical location of the item? If everything within a collection just shelved by title or author, couldn't you just map that data point to the call number field? According to Bug 4957, the shelf browser is disabled if items have no call number (specifically, data in the items table's itemcallnumber field): http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=4957 I'm not very familiar with the issue, but I assumed that the bug report existed because the shelf browser didn't work without call numbers. -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org
Thank you both! I think it might have been using cn_ccode (?) to browse books that do not have call numbers. The 952 fields that I had cut and pasted into my original post somehow contained enough information for the Browse Shelf feature to work. This was a useful feature for us, however we are now investigating adding simple call numbers. Added call numbers and as a result shelf browsing is now working (the "Browse Shelf" link appears in the OPAC details page, and works as expected). Thanks again.
