I think the problem with creating a foundation now is the amount of time it takes and choosing a country and all that jazz. Whereas if we sign up with a custodian now and make it clear that this is just temporary it gets us started and we can focus on forming our own foundation over time. Also forming our own foundation costs money - so that means we have to wait until we have that ...
Also, we may make mistakes (says this ex-officer of an association that failed through a mix of imperfect rules drafted by experts and a lack of officer candidates IMO). Starting a new foundation is not a quick fix and after 3+ years of waiting for various people working on it and no idea what they've produced, I'm very strongly in favour of joining an open association.
#3 - What is an opensearch portal for Koha? :) [...] It was on MJ's original poll - I assume someone asked him to add it - or that he knows what it is :)
The poll is linked from http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=kohafoundation and you can find the phrase in "desires" in the quote from http://www.nabble.com/Re%3A-Koha-Foundation-p3453288.html by Paul Poulain. Hrm, a statistician teaching librarians how to do research? We're in a scary place now! ;-) Regards, -- MJ Ray (slef) LMS developer and webmaster at | software www.software.coop http://mjr.towers.org.uk | .... co IMO only: see http://mjr.towers.org.uk/email.html | .... op
