Many libraries are currently facing funding chalenges; Techsoup
(techsoup.org) sometimes has servers available to organizations at fair
prices. Although currently out-of-stock, the above server is an example
of equipment that US NPOs and public libraries can sometimes obtain.
Four Opterons and 32GB of memory would make a decent Koha server (=?
understatement); if you needed more storage you could just attach a NAS
box or similar. If interested, you need to check the site periodically
because stuff comes and goes. If really interested, it would be
advisable to pre-register because they do check eligibility.
Other items, like network switches, are also listed; start at the base
URL to find their offerings. Most of the Techsoup software is very
Microsoft-centric and comes with certain restrictions; I've not found
the software to be as desirable as hardware.
