Yes, it does.
I'm an idiot! I run enough reports. All I have to do is to SELECT the
proper field, items.itemnumber.

No, I just wanted to know how to extract (SELECT in SQL jargon) the
item record number. I know the batch item modification propagates the
changes on the next CRON cycle. But the question helps clarify the issue.
