Dear Mr Cohen Arazi,

Thank you very much for pointing out the best practices for a proper koha installation, you must realise though that this is not what I asked.

I already have a koha git installation that works more or less fine, and frankly I’m not prepared to ruin it just in order to comply to some guideline, not when I know that what I’m asking is not only possible, but routinely performed by other such installations. My problem is that I have no idea on how to push my git installation up the release ladder.

As I use koha in English, I haven’t encountered any problem with the translation files. Actually, the only problem I’ve had so far due to git updates that have passed QC is the one I described in http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=9962 . On the other hand, I look forward to take advantage of ameliorations to koha that only apply to later versions, like http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=9737 .

I do recognize that a git installation is neither the best nor the simplest for persons such as I, you must consider though that it was obtained ready-made as a VM*, and that should there not be such an “koha appliance” available, I probably wouldn’t use koha at all today. As things are, I have still to understand most of it, but I’m progressing, and it simply works!

Thank you again for your considerate suggestions.

kind regards,

Manos PETRIDIS

*Many heartfelt thanks to Kyle Hall of ByWater Solutions/ Meadville Public Library/ Crawford County Federated Library System/ Mill Run Technology Solutions for providing the VM image.

If you don't know how to upgrade Koha you shouldn't be doing a Git install at all.

If you are on Debian/Ubuntu a packages install is recommended [1],

If you wan't/need to stick with your current install method (sources), please use the latest stable tarball releases to get up-to-date sources [2] (instead of Git which might contain stuff not ready for production yet, for instance translation files). Install instructions come with the sources, in the form of a INSTALL.<distribution> text file.

Good luck!
