Collection Development and Acquisitions Librarian
Brooklyn Law School Library
Brooklyn Law School Library seeks a dynamic, innovative individual to serve as its Collection Development and Acquisitions Librarian.
The Library is the legal research center for Brooklyn Law School, a private law school located in downtown Brooklyn, New York City.  Founded in 1901, Brooklyn Law School enrolls approximately 1,300 full-time and 170 part-time students.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Collection Development and Acquisitions Librarian will:

 *   Manage the Library's acquisitions and serials operations and supervise three full-time technical services assistants.  These operations include 1) investigating, ordering, receiving, claiming, and paying invoices for all library acquisitions in all formats and 2) resolving problems with orders and accounts for library materials.
 *   Recommend to the Director of the Library sources in all formats based on 1) the Library's collection development policy, 2) recommendations of faculty, librarian liaisons to faculty, and students, 3) acquisitions tools such as YBP's GOBI, 4) publishers' catalogs, brochures, and announcements (print and online), 5) database trials offered by vendors and consortia, 6) ILLiad statistics for materials requested by patrons, and 7) other sources.
 *   Serve as the Library's primary liaison to vendor sales departments and regularly evaluate vendors' performance.
 *   Negotiate contract prices for print library materials with vendors.  Review licenses and purchase agreements for the Library's electronic sources.  In conjunction with the Director, negotiate license and purchase agreements for the Library's electronic sources.
 *   Monitor the Library's materials expenditures budget and track fiscal year spending.  Prepare budget projections at the request of the Director.
 *   Train the three technical services assistants to use new technologies for acquisitions and serials functions.
 *   Maintain collection statistics.
 *   Review and edit the Library's collection development and retention policies.
 *   Manage acquisitions under the Library's agreements with various consortia.
 *   Collaborate with other librarians to develop approaches for the transition from print acquisitions to electronic sources.
 *   Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:

 *   M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited institution
 *   Demonstrated knowledge of legal and cross-disciplinary publishing, including publishing trends
 *   Experience negotiating with vendors and reviewing and negotiating terms of license and purchase agreements
 *   Competence in bibliographic and acquisitions data management
 *   Some knowledge of MARC format and cataloging
 *   Strong analytical and problem solving skills
 *   Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
 *   Experience with standard office software, including Word and Excel
Preferred:

 *   At least two years of professional law library experience in acquisitions or collection development
 *   Experience working with an integrated library system such as Millennium or Koha
 *   Experience using YBP's GOBI acquisitions tool
