Also keep in mind that it may not matter where Koha stores the
information, as long as the interface displays the information with
the label you want. You have the option of changing the templates to
match your requirements.

Of course this doesn't solve your need to be able search on those
fields, but Koha's patron searching is pretty primitive, so I'm not
sure you're any worse off than the rest of us ;-)
