[Koha] Running Installer.pl

Hi,  I managed to get all my perl modules installed
[hint:  install package perl-libnet first], and then
ran perl installer.pl

When the installer gets to the part about "Enter root
password for MySQL server", it never accepts any
answer.  I can go ahead to /usr/local/mysql, change to
super user, and run (for example) 

 ./bin/mysqladmin -u root -h Wilhelm
--password=oldpass password 'new password'

 and modify the password, but apparently when
installer.pl tries it, it messes up.  Does anyone know
why this would happen?
