Harley is a fork of Koha, a version of Koha based on some fairly old code. Although the Harley code was released to the public by PTFS, PTFS has not worked to integrate the course reserves into the official version of Koha yet. It's still possible they will do so for Koha 3.4, but we'll have to wait and see. -- Owen -- Web Developer Athens County Public Libraries http://www.myacpl.org
If Harley's course reserves module is the same as LLEK's, I'd hope it gets a lot of work before being unleashed on any Koha users. In my experience, in its present state it's buggy and poorly designed. Hi All, It would be great to see a 'Course Reserve' (or 'Reserve Bookroom') module in the next release of Koha. In our previous ILS, we utilised a Course Reserve module and since migrating to Koha have lost that functionality. At present, to get some sort of functionality which resembles a Course Reserve module for our libraries, I created a new Collection for each Library in Koha called: Reserve If someone wants to put an item on a Reserve we just go into the particular items Holdings Record in Koha and change the Collection from its current collection (e.g. Non-Fiction) to Reserve. The following has nothing to do with the subject of this email, but I thought I would add it anyway. In our libraries, we also have a Collection in Koha called: eReserve With this collection when we catalogue eBooks, if we hold the physical text of the item in our Reserve collection we will put the eBook in eReserve. Therefore, you will get: Physical Text (Book) - Collection: ReserveeBook - Collection: eReserve Also, we put in our eReserve collection PDF scans of particular chapters of high use material. This PDF document is stored on a central server for all libraries, and a short Bibliographic record and generic Holdings Record created for it in Koha, with the link to the document. - (Note, because of Copyright Law's we don't allow our patrons to save any copies of this PDF document.) I just thought I would put that out there. - If you are interested in further details about our generic Reserve and eReserve collections in Koha, or further details about how we operate eReserve, feel free to contact myself off list at: Joel.Harbottle@hotmail.com.au. Hi All, It would be great to see a 'Course Reserve' (or 'Reserve Bookroom') module in the next release of Koha.
Speaking as the RM for the next release, which is due in april 2011, it is quite unlikely that one will make it in for this release. As far as I know, no one is currently working on it. Hopefully someone will get funded to work on it and to contribute it back to Koha as the original implementation was supposed to be. Someone might pick up the code that was released as Harley and spend some time bringing it up to a state where it could be interested, and if understand Daniel, fix the issues with it. Certainly if a working implementation that passed QA and applied cleanly to the master branch of the Koha reposity was submitted, then it would be considered for 3.4. Chris
The biggest blocker for Course Reserves, in my opinion, is Hourly Circulation. This needs to be completed first, since for many academic institutions, the loan period on a reserve item is less than a full day. There is an RFC on the wiki ( http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Hourly_Loans_RFC), and while it is not currently funded, that's being worked on. Hopefully it'll be ready for Koha 3.4, but it's a large development, so perhaps not. Once that's in place, I have an idea for how to do Course Reserves pretty easily, so hopefully it would follow Hourly Circulation pretty quickly. -Ian On Sun, Dec 5, 2010 at 9:37 PM, Chris Cormack <chris@bigballofwax.co.nz>wrote:
