I've searched the manual, but it appears that there's no provision for automatic staff notification whenever a patron places a hold on a title. Is this true? Lacking that feature, the "Holds to pull" report has to be checked periodically, correct? I'm also unclear on the purpose of the "Holds queue" report. Can someone clarify? I have a couple of titles in the queue, but can't remember how they got there, or how to get them off ... Thank you, Cab Vinton, Director Sanbornton Public Library Sanbornton, NH

Thank you, Nicole. Turns out we have this preference turned on, but I don't recall seeing any email notifications. Does anyone know if notification of a hold placed is instant, or if it runs periodically? We have had all sorts of problems getting hold emails to work. Thanks to Liz at NEKLS and Jesse Weaver aka pianohacker for helping us out -- both of you chime in if I've missed something. You need a properly structured notice for holds in your notices list. There was also a problem with the structure or setup of the messages transport table (Jesse knows details on this -- somehow related to the default Koha installation process). Depending on how you have the syspref and your cron of the build_holds_queue script, the hold email should go out when the hold is marked as "available" (waiting at X library). Holds don't actually get sent anywhere, though, until the process_message_queue script runs. Check your cron list for frequency on both of those. Jane Wagner Library Systems Analyst PTFS Inc. There might some confusion here: I'm referring to emails to library staff when a patron places a hold, while you seem to be referring to emails to patrons once a hold has been pulled by staff for a patron. Ultimately, of course, we'd like both to work! Thanks, Cab Vinton, Director Sanbornton Public Library Sanbornton, NH On Wed, May 20, 2009 at 4:17 PM, Wagner, Jane <jwagner@ptfs.com> wrote:

Sorry, am flailing in many directions at once here :-( I'd still check your process_message_queue cron. No email to anyone will go out until that runs. Jane Wagner Library Systems Analyst PTFS Inc. The system preference 'emailLibrarianWhenHoldIsPlaced' is not really functional, as far as I can tell. The cron job to process the message queue will send out patron notification, etc when a hold is filled, but does not enqueue a message when a hold is placed. I've submitted a bug/enh report here: http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=3242 Regards, Ryan On Wed, May 20, 2009 at 1:09 PM, Cab Vinton <bibliwho@gmail.com> wrote:
