The University of hte South Pacific Library - seeking information on koha
Dear Listserv members The USP Library has a network of 23 Libraries spread through the Pacific in 12 countries - Fiji, Cook Is, Kiribati, Marshall is., Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. The Library currently operates two ILS - SPYDUS and Athena (no longer supported by the vendor). The Library's preference is for one system. The countries are part of 3 time zones. I seek urgent responses from Koha academic libraries currently using Koha ; a `yes' or `no' will suffice but a paragraph is welcome. This will be most appreciated. 1. Is there a Koha version specific to Academic Libraries? 2. Can Koha be installed in a Windows environment? 3. Is Customer support 24/7? 4. Depending on the severity of the bug, what are the time ranges for solving a bug? 5. Does Koha have a Discovery Layer Service? 6. Does Koha have Predictive text searching? 7. Does Koha include an eRM module? 8. Does Koha have a Mobile Interface and Circulation for Android or iOS or HTML5 Browsers) 9. Does Koha have a Digital Asset Management System? 10. Does Koha have a Dashboard for Analytics Solution? 11. Does Koha have a drag-and-drop feature for creating ad-hoc reports? 12. Is Lending of ebooks possible with Koha? * Already answered: We would like to have truly centralized solution, however, our libraries are located in different countries and in different time zones. Can Koha cater for this so that each library located in different countries can have their respective timestamp to match their local time zone? Elizabeth C. Hi Elizabeth and all, a list of answers:
1. Is there a Koha version specific to Academic Libraries? No
2. Can Koha be installed in a Windows environment? No. You need to use Linux
3. Is Customer support 24/7? If you pay a support company for it, yes
4. Depending on the severity of the bug, what are the time ranges for solving a bug? For free a quick solution is only for security bugs. If you pay a support company, ask for it.
5. Does Koha have a Discovery Layer Service? Not inside. But you can use Vufind [https://vufind.org/vufind/] with a specific driver.
6. Does Koha have Predictive text searching? No 7. Does Koha include an eRM module? Not inside. But you can use Coral [http://coral-erm.org/]
8. Does Koha have a Mobile Interface and Circulation for Android or iOS or HTML5 Browsers) Koha works with every HTML5 Browsers but it doesn't have a staff circulation section for mobile. But Opac and requests from users are mobile frendly.
9. Does Koha have a Digital Asset Management System? No 10. Does Koha have a Dashboard for Analytics Solution? No 11. Does Koha have a drag-and-drop feature for creating ad-hoc reports? No. 12. Is Lending of ebooks possible with Koha? Yes, if you catalogue them or you use a service like OverDrive (a specific integration is present)
Can Koha cater for this so that each library located in different countries can have their respective timestamp to match their local time zone? No
A few comments on Zeno's comments:
2. Can Koha be installed in a Windows environment? No. You need to use Linux The system itself needs to be installed on a Linux server, but the catalog and staff interfaces are browser-based, so you can use Windows or any other OS. Unlike the system we migrated from, there isn't separate staff software that has to be installed on staff computers.
6. Does Koha have Predictive text searching? 7. Does Koha include an eRM module? 8. Does Koha have a Mobile Interface and Circulation for Android or iOS or HTML5 Browsers) 9. Does Koha have a Digital Asset Management System? ...and a few other questions. As someone (sorry--I can't remember who) said, anything is possible in Koha if you're willing to pay for it. Koha is user-driven, and anything contributed becomes part of the general release. If you want a feature, you can build it or hire someone to build it. All right, probably not ANYTHING, but pretty close.
