Who is Live DVD manager of version 3.12.x?
Dear Friends, I don't know why Release Maintainer of Koha 3.12.x always forgot to give the exact name of Live DVD manager in release notes!!! http://koha-community.org/koha-3-12-4-released/ I once again request to Release Manager to read once more roles for 3.12 version. http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Roles_for_3.12 I would like to get the reputation as Live DVD Manager. Like any other members in developers community, I had burned lot of my time to create Koha Live DVD for 3.12 version. Regards, -- Vimal Kumar V. Vimal, et. al., As Tomas stated last time, the release notes list the current members of the release team. As your term as livedvd manager ended several months ago, you are not a member of the current release team. You will notice that D. Ruth Bavousett and Elliott Davis are not currently listed either, despite having been members of the release team during the 3.12. I would also note that there was a security release on the Koha 3.12.x branch last month. If your argument is not just that you released the livedvd for Koha 3.12.0 (which no one -- other than, apparently, you -- questions) but rather that you are the current maintainer of the Koha 3.12.x livedvd, your argument would be much-strengthened by releasing an updated version of the livedvd without the serious security flaw which was addressed in 3.12.3. That said, I take no particular stance on this question, but I will point out that Koha is an open source project, and patches are always accepted. If you feel that your name should be listed in the release notes, submitting a patch that adds your name (and provides an explanation in the commit message about why this is necessary) would be a good idea. Why Nguyen Quoc Uy name appeared in release notes of 3.12.3? In my knowledge Live DVD of 3.12.3 or 3.12.4 have not released yet.
My knowledge matches yours, and I would agree that this is a perfect example of why live DVDs are a bad idea, and why endorsing one as a project was a big mistake. His name is on the release notes because his term started after yours ended, the day after the live dvd for 3.12.0 was released. This is no different from your name being on the release notes for 3.10.whatever because you were Live DVD Manager during that release. If your name is not on the appropriate release notes (i.e. the ones that were released during your term), I would encourage you to submit a patch against those branches. Regards, Jared P.S. I can't recall whether you've submitted any patches before, but if not, http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Version_Control_Using_Git is a good page to get you started. Good luck! -- Jared Camins-Esakov Bibliographer, C & P Bibliography Services, LLC (phone) +1 (917) 727-3445 (e-mail) jcamins@cpbibliography.com (web) http://www.cpbibliography.com/
Dear Jared, Don't conclude that Live DVD's are bad idea. Developers and librarians view points are different. Librarians are end users of Koha, developers are not end users, they are facilitators. I am not trying to under estimate the role of developers. Without a Live DVD Koha is a hard nut to break, majority of LIS professionals are not Linux experts and they can't try Koha. No need to release Live DVD with every version updates. One live DVD for entire 3.12.x release cycle is enough. Koha installed inside Live DVD by following Koha packages, users can upgrade to new version updates by executing commands or running update manager. I would like to listen other members opinions about this matter. Regards, On Mon, Aug 26, 2013 at 11:10 PM, Jared Camins-Esakov < jcamins@cpbibliography.com> wrote:
