Imported records not found in catalog search
Thanks to Chris, I have been able to use the z39.50 search function to import MARC records for books, but when I go to search for those books in the catalog, they are not found. This is what is happening: Did z39.50 search by book title; found record; clicked on "import" Took me to "Add MARC record" page; clicked on "save"; unable to save because 003 field was blank; clicked field and default value of "OSt" appeared; then able to save record Took me to "Items for..." page; changed item type (y) to appropriate value; unable to add barcode (p) because I don't have labels yet; clicked "add item"; record appeared at top of page Then, if I type the title (or author or ISBN #) into the "search the catalog" box on home page, I get "no results found" Tried clicking on "More" at top of home page; clicked "Cataloging" and typed title into that search box It says "no results found", but right under that, the record appears in "Biblios in Reservoir"; if I click on "Add biblio", it takes me right back to the "Add MARC record" page and the circle repeats! Wondering what error I made or what step I missed. Could it be the 003 MARC record field where I used the default value because we don't have a control number identifier? Or could it be because I couldn't put in a bar code yet? I'm stuck - can anyone help me? Thanks, Shelley
Hi Shelley Are you using zebra? Do you have zebra running and is the rebuild_zebra cronjob set up to run? Oh dear, now my complete lack of knowledge will be apparent. What is zebra, exactly? I've seen the word throughout the manual and sort of ignored it. Since both replies to this question asked me if it was running, how do I find that out? Shelley On Dec 19, 2010, at 5:34 PM, Chris Cormack wrote:

OK, a simple google search defined zebra for me, but second question still applies - how do know if it's running? On Dec 19, 2010, at 5:47 PM, Shelley & Kurt Kemperman wrote:

Did you set up cron jobs for things like overdues and fines? When doing that, did you also set one up for zebra? If so, try running it by hand and seeing if it tells you that something is going wrong. Since we are a very small school library, we don't do fines and overdues, etc. Basically just looking to catalog, checkin and checkout with bar codes. I'll have to delve deeper tomorrow. Appreciate your help and link. I've been searching through manuals and forgot about the FAQs on the website. On Dec 19, 2010, at 6:11 PM, Robin Sheat wrote:

How long did you wait? Typically, zebra updates its index within 5 minutes, so it'll take up to that long to show up. Also, ensure that you do have the rebuild-zebra cron job running at all. -- Robin Sheat Catalyst IT Ltd. ✆ +64 4 803 2204 GPG: 5957 6D23 8B16 EFAB FEF8 7175 14D3 6485 A99C EB6D
